Only 2 canadian players, not including their starting goal tender, don't have points in this game right now I wonder if that's counting the backup tender

Even I have to admit Canada going all 14-0 on a Denmark is some super villain tier stuff. Like bad guy team in Mighty Ducks even. Canada doesn't seem to face a realistic challenge in this pool outside of Russia on the 31st I've noticed as well. Also Mikey DiPietro sounds like the name of a Sopranos character.

Quinn Hughes is an incredible skater and puck mover. He was also trying to do too much and being a bit needy, but his raw talent is undeniable. He was the most fun player to watch yesterday.

Sweden looked really really good. Very poised, sharp passing, great team game, excellent defensively. Finland also looked good and Lukkonen is fuckin enormous and really good, but they couldn't match Sweden's jump. USA looked not nearly as good as Sweden or Finland but hopefully they were just playing down to SVK's level and it's not an indicator of their overall ability otherwise they're in trouble against Sweden and Finland. The Hughes boys are fun though.

Guys always trying to do too much and be fancy as gently caress, often overlooking their linemates, trying to take on entire teams and overall the team structure is complete rear end. It's amazing how much people buy into these games as a prospect evaluation tool. But it is often fun to watch them play

I should also note that i watched D2: the mighty ducks the other day and Team US were clearly the bad guys, not team Iceland. They ran up the score against Italy and Trinedad and Tobago. They should have handily won against Iceland, yet another team with no international hockey presence and an incredibly small pool of players to pull from. They had 2 goons on their team in junior hockey, what the gently caress is that?

Russia's playing kind of dumb, taking stupid penalties but when they play canada I'm sure canada will get to take those kind of runs at players and get away with it 1+1 for Kravtsov so far Levitate fucked around with this message at 23:24 on Dec 27, 2018 |

Can they just institute a 6 team World Junior* format already? I mean I get having more games and giving everyone a chance but what's the point? * Also Olympics and World Championships.

Slovakia beating the US last year was pretty much the coolest thing though. Blowouts aren't fun, but super-underdog upsets are awesome. Can you imagine how awesome Kazakhstan beating somebody would be.

Wippersnapper posted:Can they just institute a 6 team World Junior* format already? I mean I get having more games and giving everyone a chance but what's the point? Large disagreement. The tournaments are in some ways too big, but almost every year has seen surprising results in all the levels you mentioned. Like how germany beat sweden 2018 olympics, and switzerland beat finland in wc 2018. Also six is far too low, assuming the obvious teams it would exclude switzerland and slovakia, and there has to be room for a few teams move up and down the ranks. 10 or 12 minimum. I do agree 16 in whc is too much.

i think 10 is a pretty solid number for world juniors personally, there's a pretty consistent top 8 teams and it lets a couple smaller teams show up at the end every year. 12 might be ok in that it gives those bottom 4 teams a chance of winning a game every year, but thats about the only reason to expand it

For note I wasnt entirely serious with a suggestion of 6 but really you could probably go to 8 or 10 and still end up with heavy underdogs and somewhat eliminate dumb blowouts. I mean I know it's great to go but if you're on Denmark and haven't scored but have been scored on 18 times I'd imagine you mostly just want this to be over and go home. Especially as a teenager.
