I'd be content if there were just any single store that still sold movies at all. Best Buy used to be a loving Candyland of movies and now they just have a lovely little corner that's 95% Marvel movies.

It's been gone for at least two years now and I still miss Hastings. I went there during their closeout sale and they had a ton of Arrow releases on DVD and blu, and I could tell they would've had even more had they not sold a bunch already. But I was done with physical media for a while, like I'm sure most people still are, and it wasn't until boutique labels really started to take off that I got a renewed interest in it. Then by that time it was too late, and one of the last places you could go to find a ton of physical media was closing up shop for good.

There's an FYE like an hour's drive from me, but I might as well just buy stuff online.

Even FYE is a wasteland anymore. Every time I stop in the video section is smaller. Most of that store is novelty toys and candy and those small vinyl figures that dare not be named in this thread.

The only good places to shop for physical media are local stores and chains. I had a good one near me, but then I worked there for two years and learned how poorly they treat employees and refuse to shop there again.

Went for The Loved One, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Yankee Doodle Dandy...

and one DVD: Classic Shorts from the Dream Factory Vol. 3

Which has all six of the Three Stooges shorts they made for MGM, so I now own every classic Three Stooges short on DVD.

The only FYE in Denver had a pretty sick selection I thought. I got a ton of neat releases like that Arrow Killer Klowns from Outer Space and Bride of ReAnimator. It’s got a lot of toys and stuff which is why I went, but I don’t think their selection is a waste land. Just not as deep as this other store that just went under, Second Spin was.

Eh, the only reason I was done with physical media was because I couldn't afford it for a while.

There's a massive used media store in Chattanooga called McCay's and they had a ton of laserdiscs. Ended up with the Criterion second printing of Citizen Kane, Soderbergh's Kafka, and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. While I'm not about to get a player, I thought these would look neat for decoration considering they were only $2 each.

Nope, Blu-Ray with all the features and commentaries. Looks like it might be better than the Twilight Time release even. Might sell my copy while I still have an opportunity...

Sony has been quietly re-releasing OOP Twilight Time titles on their own. Basically, same transfers (Fright Night is a 4K remaster), but without the commentaries and music-only tracks. I think Oliver! was recently done, too.

CelticPredator posted:

I didn't actually buy it.

Also traded a bunch of stuff for store credit and was able to get the laserdiscs, the official DVD set of the 1940s Superman cartoons (only one that doesn't look like rear end), The Animation Show Vol. 1/2 box, and a hardbound copy of the Citizen Kane screenplay (plus $50 in cash). There was also a Best Buy nearby and picked up the UHDs of The Big Lebowski and Apollo 13 since they were only $14 each.

They were a nice older couple who had owned the house for more than 30 years but were ready to retire to a condo.

You should have seen the paint jobs that were in the bedrooms, and some of the insane wiring and ventilation work they had had done. :barf: (For example, the hood on the kitchen range didn't vent outside, it just vented into the garage. Was able to knock about $15K off the purchase price from some of the bizarre poo poo going on there.

:sigh: And now I live alone in an apartment facing a marsh, and I've had a few stinkbugs coming out through the heat registers, which means I can't be the only person on my floor dealing with that poo poo.
