from the person i know that taught there for 3 years:

you get stuck in segregated compounds and can't ever hang out with the opposite sex (also all porn sites are blocked, though i'm guessing you can just use a vpn), alcohol, while technically legal for foreigners, is super hard to get and extremely expensive, to the point where a bunch of his co-workers were making literal prison wine, there's absolutely nothing to do except to spend a shitload of money going to bahrain and dubai for the weekends (i guess there's some alright beaches where you can learn to scuba dive and stuff, but apparently the visibility is kinda poo poo and there's nothing to see), etc.

basically it sounds like literal prison, except you're making 4k a month. some people can handle that, but a shitload of people think they can and then get there and go nuts / quit / get insanely bitter
