In case you missed it, Al-Shabaab carried out another attack in Nairobi, Kenya earlier today. They used a PBIED to get into the DusitD2 hotel, a fairly upscale place, then sent a team of six people in. Initial casualty count is seven, but really likely to go up as eyewitness accounts spoke of some pretty awful carnage.

Some US and UK SOF apparently responded to the attack as well.

We sleep soundly in our beds at night because Santa Claus stands ready to visit violence on those who would do us harm.

They did that even in the late 90s. They would muster the crew on their subs 3-4 days ahead of going out to sea and sit in the harbor just off the pier for those days just to make sure they had a crew to go out with.
