New Tiny Ruins track this morning.

The album is out in Feb and shaping up to be excellent. And making this relevant to the Sharon van Etten chat, I once saw Hollie Fulbrook of Tiny Ruins opening for Sharon van Etten. If you like one, I think you’ll probably like the other.

I ended up getting the same one; just let me know in advance so we're not wearing them at the same time. Awkward! I liked the spray-paint girl one, but I'd need to buy like six of them bc white shirts always get dirty. When I wear them.

They put on a great show, and I really liked the new songs and the cover. Also, didn't the album come out in 2018? That's a lot of new songs.

Yeah it is great, I saw them open for The Cure and it was good. Really a shame more people aren't into them.

This song rules and Strand of Oaks is good, and I am a loser MMJ fanboy as i've said so them being his backing band is also cool:

I remember learning about Foals when looking up other bands that fit into the "math rock" category. This was around the time when that first Battles album came out and I heard a show on an NPR affiliate talk about that sub-genre a bit. And I love every song on Antidotes, even if a track didn't stand out to me it eventually grew on me.

But man has everything been a departure since then, and in every direction. I honestly wrote them off as "looking for inspiration while on drugs" with Total Life Forever when they released the first song and video.

Don't get me wrong, I do like a handful of tracks on all their other albums, but none of them have the same complete package feeling as that first album. Maybe I just really like a horn section? But that track just seems like more of the same off the last two albums.

Yeah, I have those on heavy rotation. I was not successful in trying to guess which order you posted them in though.

Another thing with that album, at one point they switched the album artwork. I could only assume that it must’ve been for entry into another market or when that album started to get legs. But I just remember the same thing happened to my friend’s band, they got picked up by a small subsidiary of Warner Bros. and with that came an album artwork change. And in both examples, it wasn’t for the better.

I'm in the same boat as you. That first album is awesome end to end and scratched the Bloc Party itch just as that band started to go off the rails. The new songs are forgettable and there's nothing that's been "wowzers!" in a long, long time.

Dugong posted:

I remember reading about them in NME a long, long time ago and they were doing the whole thing where the narrative was "The Foals are the last real rock band. They're not afraid to trash hotel rooms and drink lots of beer and stick their middle fingers up to the paparazzi." That poo poo's always code for trying to spin obnoxious behavior.
