The ultimate fate of Fallout 76 is going to be putting multiplayer in the hands of Gamebryo modders. It will be a faustian bargain of making Fallout 76's netcode actually work well, at the expense of focusing it towards multiplayer sexual acts. And then they'll probably somehow integrate the Fallout 4 VR controls into it.

My money's on their next step being to push the Fallout 4 map into Fallout 76 with minimal changes and call it an expansion. It's the most content for the least effort they can do on short notice, and that's if they don't just cut their losses and kill off Fallout 76 altogether by the end of the year.
