TBF it's a tremendous evolution of a system that, yes, mosy people saw in L4D. In that, you can highlight/ping a bottle on the ground and Ellis will say "Hey ya'll, got some pills here". Also, the characters in both games say things automatically that both give characterization and help new players "Hey guys, witch; kill your light!".

But there's never been a ping system this comprehensive, particularly in your ability to ASK for information instead of just supplying it. Other games have had pinging systems, and some of them were very good at the time they were designed, but this game has officially obsoleted all previous versions.

Speaking of pinging systems in games, big lol that DICE dumbed down their "ping" system with BFV restricting it to one class and requiring binoculars.

Would kind of like to see other big shooters take what Respawn did with their ping system and implement them in their games. Might make playing with randoms a lot better. (Hah, who am I kidding)

The ping system is great in that your teammates can use it as an acknowledgement by pointing and pinging the same thing that you are.

That's not true at all. Any class can spot and it is context sensitive (spot a tank and your soldier will yell "TANK OVER THERE" and they'll be a red icon of the tank on the minimap) but it won't move if the target moves. The kinds of "spots" that move with the target (which they call "3d spotting") are:

1) Looking at them through the Recon spotting scope spots them for 10 seconds
2) Shooting a flare over their area as a Recon spots them for the duration of the flare
3) Hitting them with any bullet from any gun as a Recon with Sniper specialization spots them for 5 seconds
4) Hitting a vehicle with any weapon that does damage as an Assault with Vehicle Buster specialization spots them for 10 seconds
5) Fully suppressing infantry with weapons fire spots them for 5 seconds

It's quite sophisticated, actually. They toned it down because 3d spotting is super powerful.

Using any class to spot them is only just an audio queue correct? I still think it was a mistake to take away the "3d spotting" from previous BFs, even if it's powerful I think it kills communication between the entire team which could normally be conveyed in the UI. If anything I would have preferred maybe a "Last known position" kind of spotting that is open to call classes. Nerf the spotting but keep the communication between the team when people aren't hooked up to mics.

Just pinged defending here at the bunker entrance while the ring was closing in past the door and wiped three squads with my two mic-less pubbies, it’s really a fantastic system for someone that plays solo without a mic. As has been mentioned it could definitely use a “let’s gather up” ping besides the passive callout that characters will occasionally do, but pinging “going here” seems to work pretty well with most randoms I’ve grouped with.

If they've hit 10 million players during the week, releasing it out of nowhere, this weekend is gonna probably be insane for them. The hype is spreading now, and the game has been glued to the top of Twitch since it released. Hope they got a few extra servers ready to go!

Also, I think it was a really ballsy move to do the release like they did. They've obviously spent a lot of time and money on developing this thing, and their last game was considered to be a bit of a flop, mostly because of the way it released (close to other big shooters). It could have gone so, so badly for them if the game wasn't as good as it is. That's gotta be some stress on whoever was responsible for making the decision.

they should honestly never add a solo mode. if people want to solo, just pretend your two squadmates are AI's and that you can direct them with pings like mass effect or something.

No. You put the last known position on the minimap and a red carat at the location they were last seen in addition to the audio cue. From experience, if you want to have consistent 3d spotting you can have that with a couple dedicated Recon players - they basically just moved it to a dedicated person because it's so powerful.

You get huge points for spotting people in BV5, for example a straight kill gives you 100 points but spotting someone on the objective and getting them killed by a squadmate gives you 90 (or 80 for a rando). You can be near the top of the leaderboard by just shooting Recon flares over contested objectives and getting gobs of points from helping people see the enemy, it's actually kind of a meme and super useful. A friend of mine who isn't very good at BF5 sometimes just breaks out the spotting scope and helps me counter-snipe and it's very effective and makes a big difference.

I feel like if they add a solo mode that changes the meta of the 3 squad mode. I'm willing to bet that most squads are random groups and playing in a prefab squad puts you at a huge advantage over strangers coordinating. Not uh deny that the ping system will help these random groups but still.

You have to assess the risk of having an immediate fist/firefight by seeing how many other people are jumping into the same area. Same with dropships.

Had a really weird game today.

I played with two monster players, and they quickly equiped with snipers. We proceed to walk around like the owners of the place. They would sometimes climb somewhere high and torment the other players. But other than a few of these shots. I did not saw anyone. Everyone where loving scared of us. Only at the final circle, that was super tiny, somebody appeared.

The difference of skill between good players and the average player is gigantic.

I am also becoming better at the game. It feels good. I am not more a drain to the team and sometimes even do some kills.
