EXCEED CHARGE

The Old Republic is an ambitious MMOPRG developed by Bioware. Set 350 years after the end of the original KOTOR, the Old Republic allowed players to be a part of the story of a cold war between Jedi and Sith. It was impressive for what it was, but TOR was always limited by its status as an MMO. There were choices, but it was never possible to go truly off the rails and tell your own story.

This is a game where you’ll get the opportunity to play the story of your very own Sith rise to power. Starting as Initiates, you’ll need to earn the interest of Sith Lord to take you on as an apprentice, then use the opportunities you can make to rise of the hierarchy.

It will be run in a style similar to the various small-gods and rising-gods games that have appeared on the SA forums. With characters pursuing their individual stories and ambitions and crossing over or splitting apart from their fellow players as their scemes take them rather than being primarily grouped together in a party.

As you advance through the ranks, you’ll need to assemble a power base of your own. What you do with it and when and how you interact with the other players, each of whom will be pursuing their own paths to the top will be up to you. Will you angle to join the Dark Council, break off and form a faction all your own, reform the Empire from within or without.

It’s also an experiment with a potential style of Co-GMing intended to both reduce workload on individual GMs, and allow a person to be both player and GM hopefully without the pitfalls inherent to both running and being a part of the same game.

You can find more info about how that’ll work in the System section below, and if you have any questions we’re happy to talk to you about it. This game is very much an experiment with the idea, so figuring out what works and what doesn’t will be an important part so honest feedback is always welcome.

If you’re not familiar with the setting of The Old Republic, there is an information post below laying out information on the Sith Empire and Sith Order.

System:

This game will be run using PDQ by Atomic Sock Monkey, a very rules light and flexible system.

This game is in part a test of a method of co-GMing and will be run by both Valhawk and I am communist. Each of us will be handing 4 out of the 8 characters, 3 recruited players each and the PC of the other GM. The goal here is to both reduce the workload on each GM and to allow people to both GM and play without breaking the way the game works.

In the interests of fairness each of us will never be involved with any decision involving our own character, and if you have any concerns you are free to reach out to one or both of us to discuss them. Our hope is that this way or running a game will help the game run longer and smoother with more fun for all involved.

Characters:

Your characters are Initiates at the Sith Academy on Korriban, angling to full Sith by becoming an apprentice to a Sith Lord. Your sheet will consist of a Class Quality, a Force Specialty Quality, a Reputation Quantity, and a Force Drawback.

Class: This is in many way the core of your character mechanically. It represents both your overall skill in the Force as well as the privileges and perks that come with being one of the Empire’s nobles. It will grow and change as you proceed through the game and gain power and rank. At the start your class will either be:

Sith Warrior[+2] - Those among the Initiates who focus upon physical power and the art of the lightsaber and combat will walk the path of the Warrior. Masters of battle, Sith Warriors draw on the power of the force to enhance themselves and physically attack their enemies. On the battlefield they are second to none in destructive potential, and often cultivate knowledge of battle tactics as well as raw fighting skill. Warrior's force training tends to focus on enhancing their physical attributes through the use of the force.

With appropriate training and experience a Sith Warrior can become either a Sith Juggernaut[+4] or a Sith Marauder[+4]

Sith Inquisitor[+2] - Those more interested in the power of the force itself tend to gravitate to the role of Inquisitors. While an Inquisitor will be nominally competent with a lightsaber, their true area of expertise is in drawing directly on more esoteric aspects of the force. Casting out lightning-like bolts of pure energy, clouding the mind, inflicting diseases, drawing the life itself out of an opponent. These are more the Inquisitors tools. In a straight up fight, an Inquisitor won’t stand a chance against a warrior or jedi guardian of equal power, but only a foolish Inquisitor would seek such combat

With appropriate training and experience a Sith Inquisitor can become either a Sith Sorcerer[+4] or a Sith Assassin[+4].

Reputation: The Knights of the Old Republic series is known for tracking your actions affect on your connection to the force via Dark and Light Side points. For this game we’ll be handing this system via a Reputation quality. This represents what you are known for and will change as word of your actions spread. This ties into the Dark and Light Sides of the force as your Reputation has two parts, a short description representing what is publicly known about you and then Light/Dark/Neutral representing the sort of force presence you radiate. This will be a stat that is at once a Quality and a Drawback depending on your situation with the level representing its impact on the dice. For example, if your reputation is the Butcher of Belsavis[Dark 4], then you’d be able to use it intimidate an Imperial Officer to carry out your orders, but if you’re trying to play nice with a Jedi they’d count it against you.

Your publicly known reputation and your force presence aren’t necessarily going to be in alignment. If you’re secretly a serial killer who just has exceptionally good PR or those terrifying medical experiments you tell everyone about are actually just covering for providing free treatment for the underprivileged your force aura will clash with your public face. While normal people might be fooled, other force sensitives will be able to pick up on the dissonance. For example, if you have the reputation as the Healer of Undercity[Dark 6] or Depraved Sith Lord[Light 4] then when you run into a Jedi or fellow Sith, they’ll sense your light or dark nature despite what the world may think. Of course, they won’t necessarily know how or why your aura takes on that particular character.

Species - The Sith are something of a strange beast when it comes to the Empire’s tendency for human-supremacist policies. Though the Force expresses strongly with certain bloodlines, those possessing incredible power in the Force could come from anywhere. Now that the Sith Empire is no longer hidden in isolation, it is having to come to terms with the conflict between the Empire’s tendency to denigrate non-humans, and the Sith’s desire for powerful force-users. This was accelerated due to the Great War, and the significant casualties to Sith the conflict caused. Now, the Sith are desperate for new blood to rebuild their damaged order, and pure pragmatism has started to mean that if a potential initiate is powerful enough in the force, it doesn’t really matter who or what they are. Of course, this has hardly percolated through the whole system, but the implications for the Empire are staggering. The Sith aren’t just the Empire’s namesake, they are it’s ruling class. They are literally above the law, and the Empire is shaped and modeled by and on the Sith. Now it will have to deal with the fact that a new generation of Sith (of which you are a part of) are from groups it has long denigrated. How this will change the Empire is in the hands of its rising new lords as they claim their power and reshape it in their own images.

App Format:

Name - What’s your character’s name? Keep in mind you start the game as an Initiate, so you’re not a Lord or a Darth yet. If you’re having trouble I have found this to be one the better name generators for star wars-sounding names.

Picture of your character: Provide a picture of your character, considering this is drawn heavily from SWTOR feel free to use it as a source for player Pics.

Background: Who are you, where are you from, why are you on Korriban? Are you scion of a great and powerful sith family or a slave whose power with the force was too great to ignore. Give us a general idea of what you’re like.

Class[+2] - Either Sith Warrior[+2] or Sith Inquisitor[+2]

Force Specialty[+2] - The Force is powerful and mysterious, no two people truly approach it the same way. As a result, different people will tend to show particular talent or aptitude at different areas of the force. Do you possess a fine-grain control to telekinetic action, are you particularly effective at clouding minds, stealing or giving life, what it is about your talent with the Force that sets you apart?

Force Drawback[-2] - Just as each person possesses certain areas of natural affinity, in turn they equally tend to have areas of weakness. What is this for you, at what aspect of the force are you just not quite as powerful as your fellow initiates despite your best efforts.

Reputation: Initiate [Neutral 0]

Ambition: You’re a Sith, the path to unimaginable power is laid out before you, but what do you want to do with that power if you can get it. Are you aiming to be on the Dark Council, which Sphere? Do you want to change the Empire in some way? Do you just want to get a planet all your own? If you don’t know that’s fine too. This is a way to help us understand your character and what you’re looking for out of the game.

Sample Characters

Since both I am Communist and I will be acting as both players and GMs (see the System section for details) we can use the actual character’s we’ll be using as samples. You can find them in the 3rd post down below.

Other Info

If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact either of us via PMs. You can also often find us in #ohgod on discord.

Either of us are happy to help with questions about the game or your character. Feedbacks will be given to all completed apps.

We’re looking for 6 characters, applications will close on 11:59 PM EST on Friday February 15th.

EXCEED CHARGE

3000 years ago the dark jedi from the first Great Schism of force users found a remote planet, Korriban, and from it forged a great empire. Then, 1500 years ago, this Empire was discovered by the Republic, and thus began the Great Hyperspace War. The war ravaged the galaxy, however in the end the Sith Empire was defeated. Facing extinction from the victorious Republic, the survivors under the leadership of a dark side force-user of unimaginable power, one of the few remaining Sith Lords fled deep into the unknown reaches of the galaxy. After 20 years wandering, the Sith lead his followers to the ancient Sith colony of Dromund Kass, thought lost to time. There they forged a new empire of the Sith with the Sith Lord as it’s emperor. During the rebuilding process, the Sith proclaimed himself to be the Dark Lord of his order and Emperor of his people. Under the care of the Emperor and his Dark Council of Sith Lords, the Empire established its capital of Kaas City and began building a mighty war machine, with the intent of eventually returning to combat with the Galactic Republic once more. The Empire worked towards that goal for over one thousand years, gradually expanding and gaining more power and influence. During that time, the Sith were discovered by Jedi Knights Revan and Malak, who were forcibly turned to the dark side of the Force by the Emperor and became Sith. Although they were sent back to serve as the vanguards of the Empire's eventual invasion, they broke free from his conditioning and formed concurrently their own Sith Empire, but the Republic defeated the two and their remnant, and knowledge of the Empire remained hidden.

Around three hundred years later, the Sith Empire—still under the command of the Emperor —was ready to return to the greater galaxy. After covertly installing puppet governments on Republic worlds across the Outer Rim Territories, the Sith invaded Republic space in an onslaught of unrivaled proportions.

After capturing and securing much of the Outer Rim in the early stages of what would become known as the Great Galactic War, the Sith Emperor began preparing for the push towards the Republic's bastion in the Galactic Core. Despite several setbacks in its campaign towards the core, the Empire surged forward once more, crippling the Republic economy through an alliance with the Mandalorian warrior clans. However the blockade was eventually broken by Jedi Hylo Visz, and reinforcements from the Republic which brought the war into another stalemate. After nearly 3 decades of fighting, the Empire surprised the galaxy when the Dark Council extended an offer of peace to the Republic. Desperate, the Republic senate accepted, but during peace talks on Alderaan, the Empire launched a sneak attack on the Republic capital of Coruscant. The attack was a rousing success for the Empire, allowing the Sith to force the Republic to sign their draft of the document that would end the war, the Treaty of Coruscant.
With the war at an end and the Empire stronger than ever, the Emperor retreated from the public view and passed responsibilities of the day-to-day maintenance of the Empire to the Dark Council

The Sith Empire currently extends across hundreds of worlds, ruled from its capital of Dromund Kass. The Empire is theoretically ruled by the god-like Sith Emperor, but he intervenes in the affairs of the Empire only rarely. The actual day-to-day authority rests with the Sith, the Empire’s dark-side force using nobility. The twelve most powerful of their order form the Dark Council, each assigned to overseeing some aspect of the Empire ranging from production, diplomacy, various military functions, to the recovery of ancient knowledge. The Sith themselves form the Empire’s nobility, while the majority of the populace who is not-force sensitive makes up a majority of its citizenry.

The Empire is a force of dominance, an authoritarian state forged from militarism, slavery and the dark side of the Force. United under a single Emperor and his Dark Council, ruled by the Force-sensitive members of the Sith Order and supported by countless loyal citizens, the Empire forsakes the freedoms offered by the Republic in favor of strength and order. Aiming to take revenge on the Republic for its exile centuries ago, the Sith Empire will stop at nothing to become the greatest power in the galaxy.

The Sith Order is very much the core of the Sith Empire. They form the Empire’s nobility, and wield immense power. Primarily Dark Side force-users, the Sith can trace their roots back to the second great schism that split the ancient jedi order. The dark jedi were exiled from known space aboard unarmed transports. Forced to jump into unknown space the dark jedi landed upon the world of Korriban. With their power over the force, they were viewed as gods by the natives, the Sith. It was here that the Sith Order was born. These former Jedi delved into the mysteries of the dark side of the force, and formed their own order based on its tenants. Sith Ideology favors conflict and domination, focused on drawing forth the strong emotions that empower users of the dark side of the Force.

Structurally the Sith adhere to a ranked hierarchy (though an often tumultuous one). There exist 5 formal ranks within the Sith Order:
  • Dark Lord of the Sith: The most powerful Sith and ruler of the Order and the Empire. The current Dark Lord is the Sith Emperor, who has held the title undisputed for the entire history of the Empire. Theoretically to become the Dark Lord, the title must be seized from the current holder, though the Emperor is so powerful, this outcome is largely unimaginable.
  • Darth: These are powerful and prominent Sith whose power and ability is so significant that it cannot be ignored. They tend to have significant power bases and are masters of the force. In ancient times, such a title was granted by the Emperor himself, but in the modern Empire it is made by decision of the Dark Counsel.
  • Lords: These are Sith of particular talent and note, and are generally well on their way to amassing their own powerbases. Only a Darth can elevate a Sith to Lordship. Only Lords and above may officially take on apprentices.
  • Sith: These make up the majority of the Order, tending to serve as apprentices to either a Lord or a Darth. They lack the power to be truly independent. A vast majority of Sith will never rise above this rank. Specialist positions such as the Academy Overseers are generally drawn from this rank.
  • Initiate: The new recruits of the Order. They train at the Sith Academy on Korriban until they are selected to be an Apprentice to a Lord or Darth or die. Casualties among initiates are high, as Sith training tends to be brutal and no holds barred.

As befitting acolytes of the dark side, Sith are infamous for cultivating their passions and desires to enhance their powers. As such, confrontations between Sith tend to be violent, and the hierarchy of the Sith constantly seethes as members maneuver against one another in search of power and prestige.

        Name: Kier Felsto
      • Race: Human

        Pre-Sith Academy
      • Background: On Nar Shaddaa, the slums were home to many. If the gangs and rampant corruption didn't claim you, then the slavers and hutts would. Kier Felsto was a sickly child, brittle bones, weak. The other children were cruel as he grew. No one could protect him. When he grew he was preyed upon by those more powerful than he. Forced to their will. It was when he was on the receiving end of a lethal beating as a young man walking into the wrong cantina that it happened. Kier snapped. After they had "killed him". As he had lain, dying he raged. Raged against the unfairness of it all, the pain, the suffering as he bled. It was then that Kier was filled with the force. He died.

Then Kier gasped. He was stripped of his belongings and thrown in the garbage. His limbs filled with anger, hate. The pain was excruciating as he walked into the night.

It took him months to kill them all, every time they killed him he returned. Stronger. Harder. Faster. Filled with fury and vengeance. They hid from him in the end and as he claimed the last victim and his bodyguards the sith assassin appeared. Keir dropped the blade he had used. He was no match for this one. "My vengeance is complete." He told the silent assassin as he raised his scarred face. "Strike me down. Kill me. If you dare!" The Sith assassin cocked her head to one side and nodded. Kier did not see the blow but rocketed backwards from her outstretched palm. The force shoving him into a pillar.

He died. And awoke on a starship. There were slaves that huddled, and descendants of sith (they didn't mix) and others who were no one like him. The Emperor called for those who would serve his Empire. The slaves mostly cowered, the nobles sneered, and Keir? He HATED. The pain was almost unbearable, for the sith assassin had crushed his spine and his ribcage. He did not want to live, but the pain made him. The suffering.

Korriban would make them all or break them. Maybe the Lords would kill him. 'It would be a blessing to die.' He thought. When he kept living at first he thought it a boon, but now he knew it for what it was.

        Pain.

        A curse.

      • Class:Sith Warrior [+2]
      • Force Specialty: Power of Hatred [+2] - Keir's hatred fuels the dark side within him so much that he can sustain massive amounts of damage and still live (since the Force is life). Mortal, Incapacitated or Death blows dealt to him are treated as mere wounds. Whenever Keir uses this ability, all damage is removed from him, even though the wound is still there, but is no longer treated as an injury. This effect can be negated if his will is broken. More detailed explanation: Obviously whether it is a force-barrier or armor based thing or the aforementioned ability, it is a tanking Jug style stat. The flavor being this hate fueled healing. It is not immortality or invincibility. "Coming back" Michael Meyer style may not be timely nor accomplish the goal, but could make for some dramatic reappearances.
      • Force Drawback: Pain [-2] - Peace is a lie and Pain is eternal. Every bone broken, every wrong done to him all as fresh as the day it was visited upon his body and mind. It fuels him, it torments him. It can distract or derail him. The more he grows in power, the more he must seek clarity. For if he loses sanity, he will be no more than the wounded force-spawn beasts.
      • Reputation: Initiate [Neutral 0]
      • Ambition: Before they found him, before the Sith, all Keir knew was pain, loss, and misery. Then came the dark side. It was truth. He first visited this truth on those who he hated then upon those who did not understand. The republic and the jedi were hypocrites, liars, and unable to recognize the power of the darkside. Pain. He would remake and break the galaxy. It would burn and in the ashes, be reborn into a new sith creed. At least...if he survived the trials... Basically build a powerbase and raid the republic and turn people to the darkside

Name - Bikke

Background: Bikke was born a slave on a remote agricultural world. The Empire has never been kind to non-humans and he grew up working the fields his inferiority pounded into his bones. What his owner and overseers did not know was that he had been born powerful in the Force. When he was young he hid his powers away, even as he dreamed that he might one day be Sith, no longer a slave but a being with the galaxy at his beck and call. However, even those dreams were nearly crushed. For while Bikke has his talents, the use of the Force to move and control physical matter had never been one of them. When the Sith that came to the farm where he labored called forth each slave to test for Force ability, he disinterestedly called for a display of telekinetic power, Bikke failed just as badly as if he had no connection to the Force at all. Despite his pleas otherwise, the Sith clearly had no real interest in finding Sith among alien slaves, and he was sent back to the fields.

All seemed lost for the young Cathar, but the Force works in mysterious ways. His talents had always lay with the manipulation of the life energies, and his experiments had resulted in some more noticeable improvements in some of his fellow slaves. The sort that could not be ignored. The fact that the Empire was offering a generous reward to any slave-owner who discovered force-sensitives certainly didn’t hurt his master’s decision to report him to the Sith. When another Sith was dispatched to investigate Bikke’s owner’s claims, they discovered that unlike previous reports he was indeed strong with the force. He was taken to from the only home he had ever known. Like all potential Initiates he was trained in the use of his powers, and when the time was ripe sent to Korriban to sink or swim in those most treacherous waters.

Class - Sith Inquisitor[+2]

Force Specialty: Life Manipulation[+2] - While Bikke has all of the skills one might expect for an Initiate Inquisitor on the way up, there is always one area where he has truly shone. There is a long tradition of Sith Sorcery focused on the manipulation and alteration of the life-force of other beings dating back to the very schism that split the Jedi and lead the dark exiles on the path to found the Sith Order. It is in this field that Bikke is a natural prodigy. In battle, he can try to rip and tear the life-force from his foes (though at the moment he can more nibble at an opponent's life-force than eat it whole), but the true power of such a skill can only shine with time and concentration. Without the distraction and din of the battlefield a practitioner can attempt to shape lifeforms to suit his or her needs. Make a creature stronger, or endow it with venom or other useful traits. Bikke has always been a quick study of such things, and it was his alterations to the beasts he tended that caused his force potential to be noticed initially. Now a universe of knowledge filled with countless lifeforms and people to study and alter lays before him.

Force Drawback: Incompetent Telekinetic[-2] - One of the most well known uses of the Force both Light and Dark is as a invisible hand. Jedi and Sith alike employ these skills for a variety of purposes from large to small, from clearing the dust off of one’s cloak to tossing boulders the size of a starfighter to crush an opponent. This signature skill just so happens to be one that Bikke has no talent for at all. With utmost concentration and after years of effort, Bikke can now with great effort lift objects about the size of a one-credit piece, something even Initiates half his age could do in their sleep. It was his complete lack of talent in this field that had him passed over when they had tested all of other slaves for force talent. The Sith in charge had tried to elicit a telekinetic display from each of the slaves, and as each failed to produce results they were sent back. Even now it is a source of shame and anger for him, one he is constantly seeking to overcome.

Reputation: Initiate [Neutral 0]

Ambition: Bikke started life as an alien slave, the lowest of the low. Now, however, he stands on the precipice of becoming Sith. He has set his sights on the very top, he wants a seat on the Dark Council, he wants to be feared and respected and loved throughout the galaxy. He wants planets to rule, servants by the thousands sculpted by his powers to suit his needs and fancies. He wants to enjoy this new life, the one he had long dreamed about to the fullest, to indulge his desires and use them to grow even stronger in the Dark Side of the Force. In short, like any good Sith, he wants it all.

Name - Zro Ta

Background: The Kaminoan outpost Zro grew up upon was seized by a group of pirates to serve as a base. The locals lived for some time under the brutal rule of the raiders. It was during this occupation that Zro's talent with the Force first manifested. Acting on instinct she clouded the minds of everyone around her to avoid notice. She was no one, was nothing. Wandering alone she bore silent witness to the suffering of her gentle kin. When an Imperial patrol cleared the pirates out Zro was one of the few Kaminoans left alive. She would have gone unnoticed even stowing away on an Imperial ship had not a specially trained agent who happened to be aboard resisted her fledgling abilities and captured her. Far from punishment however, Zro found herself sent to Korriban for further training and privilege.

Sith Inquisitor[+2]

Force Specialty: Twisting Minds[+2] - Zro's application of the more persuasive powers of the Force is curiously strong for her level of training and uniquely persistent. Those effected by even the simple mind tricks she is currently capable of are mentally scarred long after the fact, thoughts twisted to whatever belief she instilled. With proper training her mental abilities will be truly fearsome.

Force Drawback: Weak Enhancement[-2] - Zro's self image subconsciously rejects her adjustments with the Force, making her enhancing abilities much more feeble than they should be.

Reputation: Initiate [Neutral 0]

Ambition: Flesh is weak. The ways of her people preserve the flesh but that is nothing. Empty husks abused by the universe. Zro reaches out and tears into minds. Eventually if she is skilled enough she may be able to carve other minds into copies of herself. Finally she will not be alone.

OLD MAN YELLS AT CLAN

Name: Balam Thul
Species: Unknown

Background: When the leathery shell of Balam's egg first began to crack, a celebration was held throughout the Alderaanian noble house of Thul. The diminutive being was given a life of privilege and decadence rarely see in the Galaxy. When pressed about his past, Balam was only ever told that Drogan Thul, the current Head of the House, was fulfilling an ancient promise. As a scion of his house, he was given every luxury and as an enforcer of his "father's" will, he was exceptional. He delighted in the terror the name Thul brought lessor folk. He laughed when he would wring the truth from the tongues of traitors and enemies of the House.

He took to training with a vibroblade quite easily, despite his size. His training was as much about strength as it was agility and he often wielded a huge two-handed training blade that seemed far too large for him in order to throw off opponents. Balam tended to be mocked for it behind the perfumed hands of other nobles, which only drove him harder. That ended when he slew a Cortess champion in a pitched battle when the minor House tried to rebel.

Balam was still young, barely over a hundred years, when the Darth came to Thul. She had barely taken a handful of steps into the meeting hall, her greeting frozen on her lips, as she stared at the green alien who openly sneered at her even while locking his eyes with her. Next thing he knew he was on a shuttle to Korriban, with an entry to the Sith Academy signed personally by Darth Terra, whom, he had been assured, would be taking a personal interest in his future.

Class: Warrior [+2]

Force Speciality: Internalized Force Use [+2]
Balam has a natural talent at using the force to enhance his already considerable abilities.

Force Drawback: Externalized Force Use [-2]
Try as he might, Balam cannot seem to even lift a small rock without extreme effort.

Reputation: Neutral [0]

Ambition: Power. All the power. Balam is driven by his passions and believes that one day he could supplant even the Emperor.

Vor'drosai Fiirkan
Species: Twi'lek

Background: As is so common with Twi'leks, Vor'drosai was sold into slavery at a young age. His early life was one of pain, humiliation, and toil as he was sold and re-sold, passed from owner to owner, but in these years Vor did not succumb to despair. Instead he nurtured his hate, fed his anger until it boiled inside him, hidden beneath the surface, spurring him onward. Though physically weak but ideally suited for domestic chores, Vor never found himself staying in one home for very long; improbable accidents seemed to follow him wherever he went, and it wasn't long after being bought that he would be back on the block, sent to market to recoup losses. It was only by chance that a Sith Lord, browsing for a new slave or two of his own, discovered that Vor, much to his surprise and amusement, was Force-sensitive, and that all those “accidents” were no doubt the work of an angry but untrained adept. So it was arranged that the Twi’lek slave be sent to Korriban for training; he would either harness his hatred and anger and don the mantle of Sith and thereby humiliate and anger his peers, or he would die. A win either way as far as his Master was concerned.

Class - Sith Inquisitor [+2]

Force Telekinesis [+2] - Spooky action at a distance. Perhaps as a natural counterbalance to his slight frame, or perhaps his lithe build is a result of his talent, but more than any other discipline, Vor has excelled at using the Force to manipulate the physical world. His strength and control are frightening, and he uses this talent in combat more than any other. Oh, he'll thrown a lightning bolt now and then, but why throw lightning when you can throw a man into orbit instead?

Force Physical Enhancement [-2] - Why would you ever bother actually physically fighting someone when you could just crush their throat or torture them to death with lightning? Vor has never seen the point in actually swinging a lightsaber if he could help it (that poo poo looks exhausting), and subsequently never put much effort into learning how to enhance his own body or combat prowess with the Force.

mm time 2 gargle piss and shit
Name: The Beggar Knight
Species: Human

Background: The Beggar Knight, so derisively called by his superiors and most of the noble Sith families, was born from obscurity and lived the same on Hutta, defending his patch of dirt and the other dregs that made up his neighborhood kin. When the Sith swept through they plucked him from the streets after noticing his affinity with the force, and tossed his staff to the side to replace with a lightsaber.

He withstands the insults and corruption, knowing that he can walk the True Path while surrounded by enemies; he's pragmatic but unquestioningly does not view the Dark Side as anything other than a perversion of the natural way.

Warrior +2

One with the Blade +2 - The force speaks through the Beggar Knight with perfect footing, the low crouch, the grip upon the blade the most optimum; the air buzzes as the force wills the strike, as if all of history has built up to the swing.

Force Insensitive -2 - The less than ideal environment for training his latent powers put a permanent stunt in his abilities; outside of force-assisted combat the efforts needed to perform what padawans can accomplish is considerable.

Reputation 0

Ambition: The Beggar Knight wants to gather those that fell through the cracks and create an underdog Empire of light-affiliated sith. Basically going for a junkyard-monk-king sort of thing.

Wait a minute...

Name: Galchor Enil
Species: Miraluka

Background: Galchor grew up wreathed in the acrid smoke of lower Coruscant, a starving orphan barely aware of her own species. She spent her days gliding through lightless alleys by the cold outlines of some second sight, nabbing goods from dazed offworlders before hightailing it with unnatural speed. And should her victims somehow catch up to the fleeing blind girl? They'd be reduced to a bloody puddle by a storm of elbows and knees. The stains would take creds off a few fence prices, certainly, but in the thrill of crushing her foes she found something infinitely richer than the lure of her next meal. She found strength.

Her ambitions grew with the fearsomeness of her powers. Petty thefts grew into proper robberies, and that eventually blossomed into the honest trade of paid violence. At her hands organs were ruptured and skeletons mangled in ways that defied even the most scarred gangsters to explain. To hear the likes of Two-Tendriled Strabe and Tongue-Eater Zand slurringly praise her work at the cantina; it was the best feeling a former gutter rat could ever have!

Yet she knew her home could never truly contain her. Something beckoned out to her from beyond, past the blurred holo-lights diffused in smog. A promise of greatness, once a whisper as she cowered amidst the Empire's onslaught all those years ago, now a glorious deafening roar. No longer would she fear the call of power. Its voice led her towards a hapless initiate trying to corrupt a local spice dealer, it told her to lodge a durasteel girder through his chest, and it helped persuade that initiate's thoroughly impressed trainer to adopt her instead.

These "Sith" - Galchor could tell she would enjoy their company.

Class: Sith Warrior[+2]

Force Specialty: Force Crush [+2] - Fear not the woman who has practiced 10,000 strikes once, fear the woman who has practiced one strike 10,000 times. Galchor is a virtuoso at snapping spines, pulverising skulls, crumpling speeders, and anything else that'd impress the violent nerf-for-brains that often frequent the lower capital. Her mastery has grown so focused that she'd much rather tear down a wall than Force Jump over it.

Force Drawback: - Matter Over Mind[-2] - Tricking a mind requires a keen social perception, an understanding of the Force's ebbs and flows, even a measure of natural charm. A Miraluka's lack of normal sight makes this difficult and Galchor's personal qualities makes it nearly impossible. Any mental manipulation past brute intimidation is beyond her ken.

Reputation: Neutral [0]

Ambition: Galchor seeks might. The strength to destroy any and all that could oppose her, to seize whatever she desires whenever she desires it. To merely rule over a squabbling empire or a dying republic is a waste of the limitless powers of the Force.

~Life is for the alive.... So keep living it. Just keep living it! Really living it!~

Name - Zhani

Species: Zeltron

Background: Zhani had grown up on Balmorra at a time when the whole planet was a battlefield. There were recruitments and local militias, but he wanted nothing to do with any of it. He cared more for personal joy than a greater goal. Sure, Zeltrons gravitated toward positive uplifting emotions, but that usually means trying to control the people around him. Smile here, suggest there, pep talk there. If they weren't gonna be miserable, great; if not, then they'd not try spreading it to everyone they touch. And while Zhani loved thrills, he didn't want to find it in some battle with rage, grief, and apathy.

Imperial Intelligence found him. Zhani had been one of many oppressed citizens and he stuck his nose where he shouldn't; heard what he shouldn't have. He gave their agents the slip for a week, and reports made it clear why: Zhani was force sensitive. They had to send in a force-resilient agent to make the capture. There was no escape, and in a stroke of luck, the agent decided Zhani would be better suited for the Sith Academy.

Class[+2] - Sith Warrior[+2]

Force Specialty[+2] - Force Persuasion: It's a cinch to plant certain ideas in peoples' heads. Maybe it's cause he's so easy on the eyes. Maybe it's the pheromones that he secretes that make him more appealing. Or maybe it's what training he had in the force to trick the feeble-minded.

Force Drawback[-2] - Force Confusion: ... That said, it's really difficult for Zhani to avoid falling victim to similar persuasion. He's unable to figure out which passion and hate is his, and not someone else's, and some people can be very persuasive.

Reputation: Initiate [Neutral 0]

Ambition: Life is for the living, and Zhani wants to keep living it. Not just survive. LIVE. It doesn't matter if that means being up to his eyeballs in the machinations of others, he wants to enjoy the ride.

Thus equipped by fortune, physique, and character, he was naturally indomitable, and subordinate to no one in the world.

Name: Zaya
Species: Unknown (Human or Near-Human)

Background: Zaya doesn’t know where she came from. She never knew her parents, nor whether it was they who named her. She doesn’t know if she was born a slave or if she was made one at an age too young to remember. She doesn’t even know her species – while she looks essentially human, her unusual appearance has caused many to speculate otherwise.

Her most vivid early memory is of being purchased: the fear and the hope of suddenly realizing that her life was about to change dramatically. She found out later that she had been chosen simply because of her exotic features, but she never cared. The result was that instead of being worked to death in a labour camp, she was raised as the domestic servant of a wealthy Kaas City family.

It was there that her Force-sensitivity first manifested – at first only in the form of empathic abilities. Her masters briefly believed her displays to be the result of some unknown alien heritage, but the manifestation of telekinesis made the true cause clear. Soon afterwards, she was shipped off to be trained by the Sith, no longer a slave – in name, at least.

The promise of a new life of freedom seemed a hollow one at first, and she was treated far worse in the low-level academies than she ever had been as a servant. She struggled in her lessons, overwhelmed by her own emotions and those of the people around her. While her fellow students learned to channel their fear and anger into the Force, her abilities only became more unreliable as her emotions were heightened. The cruelty with which failure was punished only worsened the problem.

And then, when she reached her nadir and became certain that she was doomed, things began to change. Fear and anger began to feel pointless. And her abilities improved. She learned to control her own emotional state, and discovered what was to her an entirely novel technique: channelling the Force through inner peace rather than inner turmoil. Slowly, her true potential began to shine through, until she was the best student in her class.

Her excellence was rewarded when she was taken on as a private student by Lord Castra, a prominent Sith with a penchant for tutoring promising students of obscure origin. It was an opportunity of the sort usually reserved for the well-connected, and Zaya was happy to take advantage of it. Castra trained her not only in the ways of the Force, but also in the ways of Sith society. She learned how to speak like a noble-born Sith and how to conduct herself in the cutthroat world of Sith politics. By the time she left for Korriban, the freedom she had so longed dreamed of seemed closer than ever.

Class: Sith Inquisitor [+2]

Force Speciality: Emotional Control [+2]

The first use of the Force Zaya ever displayed was the ability to read – and eventually to manipulate – the emotions and feelings of others. Even as her other abilities have developed, it has stayed her greatest gift. As she has learned to control her own emotions better, she has also learned to use her empathic abilities to protect herself from the emotional manipulation – Force-based and otherwise – of others.

Force Drawback: Heart Over Mind [-2]

Zaya's aptitude at manipulating the emotions of others, while impressive, has come in part at the expense of other forms of mental manipulation. Mind tricks, clouded senses, induced confusion and even waking nightmares are all tools common among Sith, but Zaya finds all of them rather difficult to perform. If it involves manipulating another's reason or perception rather than their emotions, she tends to struggle.

Reputation: Initiate [Neutral 0]

Ambition: Most Sith crave power, and Zaya is no exception. But where most desire power over others for its own sake, or for the sake of some particular goal, Zaya merely desires to be beyond the control of others. What she truly wants is freedom, and she understands that the only way to achieve that freedom is by acquiring enough power to shape her own destiny. Exactly where that path will lead her, though, she doesn’t know – and a part of her fears that no amount of power will ever fully grant her the freedom she craves.

The Duke of Beer
Name - Aggravos

Species: Pau'An

Background
Aggravos is one of the few survivors of Darth Desolous' great Pau'An army, and through great pain and trouble has made his way back to Korriban. At least, that is how he presents himself. The truth, of course, is a little more complicated.

Aggravos had always been possessed of a sharp strategic mind, and a keen eye for the weaknesses of others; on his home planet of Utapau that made him stand out, but not in a positive way. These aspects, combined with an ambition that exceeded the bounds of his relatively proletarian planet, made him a prime target for recruitment by the Dread Warlord of Utapau himself; a former jedi master burning with a vengeance. Yet Aggravos had few talents as far as martial warfare was concerned, and the training Desolous demanded of his warriors almost destroyed him. As a result, Aggravos was placed in the more appropriate, but far less prestigious position of combat overseer; more a glorified communications expert than anything else.

Aggravos simmered with disdain for those who habitually underestimated him for his lack of martial prowess, and took pleasure in humiliating or betraying those that belittled him among Desolous' more accomplished followers. He often sought to get back at them through long, convoluted plots. One such plot was to be both his downfall, as well as his saving grace. A warrior close to Desolous' confidence named Tuarvine had shamed him for looking at her with too desirous an eye. He had fostered his grudges the months thereafter, slowly working to be put in place as the combat overseer for her away team, whispering day in night in the ears of those whose favor he required. When the day came, he steered her and her compatriots into a trap they were unlikely to get out of, and cut off communications at a crucial moment in time. Desolous was ill-pleased, and Aggravos had underestimated his wrath; it was only through an impressive display of groveling that the younger, weaker Pau'An escaped with his life, but not his dignity. He was placed on a punitive demotion, fulfilling menial tasks aboard the mass transport vessel from which Desolous' warriors would strike out. Yet his humiliation was his salvation, as not a month later Desolous led his warriors into a Jedi trap, and all were reportedly slain.

When the news reached him that Desolous had perished, Aggravos smiled to himself. Perhaps things would have turned out differently had the Sith Lord not dismissed his most promising master mind. He seized this opportunity to commandeer a transport and to travel to Korriban, a place Desolous had oft spoken of to his disciples, where he would pass himself off as a sole survivor of Desolous' retinue. To lend his story a bit more truth, he set off a distress beacon to alert nearby Republican forces to Desolous' bastion, in his mind ensuring he would truly be the sole survivor, before slipping off into the warp himself. He hoped he would be able to trade on Desolous' former formidable reputation, viewing this as a justifiable retaliation against his former master. Fueled by the spite he had felt for his former brothers-and-sisters-in-arms, and bolstered by the failure of their former leader, Aggravos was dead set on out-doing them all.

Class: Sith Inquisitor +2

Force Specialty: "I know your weakness" +2 - Aggravos is unusually attuned to the weaknesses of people and systems, and has a keen eye for what attributes in others to exploit to his own advantage. He can focus on the Force and it will unveil more to him than it does to those of a less observant disposition.

Force Drawback: "For I myself am weak" -2 - The duality of the Force often gives rise to startling ironies, and Aggravos' own physical weakness is merely one of countless examples. Though the Pau'An prides himself on spotting the flaws and weaknesses of others, he can not escape the fact that he is physically unimposing and utterly ill-suited for the battlefield, even through use of the Force.

Ambition: Aggravos wants to out-shine his former overlord Desolous, and prove that mastery of the Force doesn't necessarily require mastery of the body. Perhaps he will return to Utapau one day and become its true overlord, not through force, but through manipulation, and raise an army of Pau'an technocrats to rule the Empire. As a witness to the strengths and weaknesses of Darth Desolous' brief but impressive reign, he considers the mere application of physical force and violence to be inadequate for the Sith's over-arching goals of galactic domination. Hatred is powerful, but if left untempered, it will only destroy those who wield it indiscriminately themselves.

Name: Lom Trajak

Species: Human

Background:
Trajak's parents were small-time Sith officers with Imperial Intelligence on Dromund Kass - successful enough to survive, but not successful enough to advance any higher. Their relationship, like most, was one of mutual benefit, as was their decision to have Trajak. Most of his youth was spent being largely ignored by his parents, until his first display of Force sensitivity. Unable to reach a favourite toy, he screamed in frustration and flung the toy across the room with his raw emotion. From then on, he was pushed by his mother and father to develop his skills every day. As soon as he was of age, he was shipped off to Korriban to begin his initation and further the family name.

Class: Sith Warrior [+2]

Force Specialty: Telekinesis [+2] - Trajak's dedication to the lightsaber quickly saw him quickly become a force to be reckoned with in the sparring dojo. His ideal form of combat involved kinetically controlling his twin sabers, keeping his enemies at a distance.

Force Drawback: Telepathy [-2] - Lom's fondness of object manipulation hasn't come without a cost. In his mind, even other people are mere objects to be used. Because of this, he has difficulty tapping into their minds for even the most basic of mind tricks.

Reputation: Initiate [0]

Ambition: Trajak has been trained and conditioned from a young age to climb the political ladder. He has dreams of becoming a Darth, perhaps even to sit on the Council. Beyond that, although he may not admit it, he has a deep-seated desire to prove his worth to his parents and see them subservient to him.

Don't worry, I had no expectation that he would (although of course I wouldn't have a problem with it if he did, either). I just wanted to flesh out her backstory a bit, since it felt very "lonely" in terms of having other characters for her to think or care about.

Valhawk posted:

Force Drawback: Uncontrolled Emotion [-2] This seems like it will be very difficult for us to tag as GMs since it's tied to your character's emotional state which for the most part is under your control.

Yeah, that was my fear. Based on our Discord conversation (and your last suggestion in particular), I've drafted up a potential replacement:

Force Drawback: Empathic Pain [-2]

The more time Zaya spends around someone, the more she engages with them on an emotional level (positively or negatively), and the more she uses her empathic abilities on them, the more connected to them she becomes. She begins to feel their emotions more strongly, whether she wishes to or not, and it becomes harder and harder to block them out – especially their pain. At a certain point, that pain – or the mental effort required to block it – can become so overwhelming that it interferes with Zaya’s ability to channel the Force, rendering it more difficult to use any Force abilities besides her empathic ones.

I feel like the main issue is defining the criteria for when she reaches the "Force bond" threshold, and whether it's a binary thing or if it can shift and fluctuate at all. Also, I should clarify that I made it apply to all her Force powers except her empathic ones both because I feel like that makes sense (her empathic abilities come to her more naturally than anything else, so she doesn't need to focus as much) and because a natural use of her empathic powers is to alleviate the pain of others, and it would be a bit silly if she had a permanent penalty to trying to do that for anyone she's close to.

Valhawk posted:

Ambition: Good. This was important because it answers the question of why doesn't your PC just defect to the Jedi.

Yeah, I figured that the best way to justify her loyalty to the Sith despite rejecting a third of the Sith Code was to have her really believe in the other two-thirds. Of course, I'd also note that she has no reason to disbelieve Sith/Imperial propaganda about the Jedi and probably doesn't even realize that she is essentially using Jedi techniques. Even if she did, though, she'd reject the bulk of Jedi philosophy as simply a form of self-enslavement.

Edit: Okay, thinking about it more, I still sort of feel like the drawback above is a bit over-complicated, so I came up with another, simpler one. I'll leave the one above alone in case you want to comment on it, too, though.

Force Drawback: Empathic Pain [-2]

Zaya's empathic abilities, while powerful, are not always entirely within her control. When she was younger, her own emotions were often affected strongly by those around her, and it is only with significant training and practice that she has learned to filter and block the feelings of others. Still, though, she can occasionally be affected by powerful negative emotions – most notably their reactions to pain. Worst of all is when Zaya inflicts that pain herself, opening herself up even further to empathic feedback. She has since learned to avoid doing so outside of fights or life-and-death situations, where her sharper focus leaves her less affected.

In case it's not clear, the idea is that she'd have the penalty on using the Force to inflict pain and suffering on innocents or in cold blood, basically. I feel like among the Sith that sort of thing would be common and accepted enough for it to be a real drawback. I'd also be open to having it affect in her some other situations, too, but I'm not totally sure how to define it consistently without making it too broad.

Name - Katara Orono, human female

Background: The Orono Syndicate is a power bloc of low level Sith nobility who have banded together to further their own interests in opposition of the greater powers- mainly the desire to reduce and eventually stamp out the Empire’s Human-above-all agenda. While she never had to want for food or comforts, Katara’s youth was no better than some of the wealthy middle class until she exhibited potential as a Force user. That changed rapidly and accelerated ever further when she displayed potential use of Battle Meditation. Now the prodigal scion of the Orono Syndicate, the sharp witted and independant Katara is being shipped off to the Academy at Korriban with hopes that she will bring power and prestige to the Orono Syndicate.

Sith Inquisitor[+2]

Force Specialty: Battle Meditation [+2] - While by no means experienced enough to be considered a master of such a rare and esoteric Force art, Katara is unmistakably a prodigy. She is able to coordinate, empower, and bolster the moral of her allies while also confusing, terrorizing, and enfeebling her opponents. It is an immensely draining ability however, so she prefers to not be actively involved in said battle if possible.

Force Drawback: Lesser Agility [-2] - As her mental acuity and the ability to project herself is above the norm, so her ability to physically move around space is below it. While most Force wielders are capable of acts of unmatched agility (high jumps, flips, all sorts of fun stuff), Katara just can’t seem to summon that sort of power without great effort.

Reputation: Initiate [Neutral 0]

Ambition: Like all Sith, Katara desires power. Her particular flavor is power over other people, the ability to impose her will and change society to better fit her idea of “right.” She knows it will be a long and treacherous road, but is confident she has what it takes to sit on the Dark Council, and with the right allies… maybe more.

Kolzaar was hatched in the pleasure palace of Dobo The Hutt, who'd purchased him from sources unknown. He spent the first seven years of his life on display, an anatomical oddity to amuse guests. But at the age of seven he was already stronger and more imposing than most humans. Dobo soon saw that his purchase could return greater profits. So, he released Kolzaar from his shackles and gave him his first job. Enforcer.

Kolzaar was remarkably good and rose through the ranks quickly. As he aged though, he often spent nights wondering about his origins. Dobo never told him the name of his species, never told him where to find his planet or his people. For all Kolzaar knew, he was alone in the universe. Perhaps not natural at all but the product of genetic experimentation. All the low lifes and crime lords Kolzaar battled treated him with fear and derision, no one had seen a creature like him before. And this mystery brew a great bitterness in Kolzaar, until he found himself resenting Dobo.

His first fight with a Sith started out as just another job. But it changed the course of Kolzaar's life. He used to think he was just naturally resistant to pistol fire and vibroswords. But when he swept away a lightsaber blade with his wing, he knew something was wrong. The Sith was greatly surprised, though not enough for Kolzaar to gain an upper hand. He was trounced thoroughly. And following that, Dobo never fully trusted Kolzaar again.

While Kolzaar recovered, he studied Dobo and his empire. And he studied what he could find about the elusive Sith. He read that among the Sith, it was customary to replace one's master in combat. This spoke strongly to Kolzaar.

He defected to the Sith seeking answers. Seeking power. Seeking the strength to overthrow the Hutts and establish his own empire, his own home. His winged anatomy made wielding a lightsaber very complicated, but he soon made a reputation for himself as a savage fighter in his own right. Kolzaar favored a savage hand-to-hand fighting style akin in some ways to kickboxing, which the Sith Masters encouraged and refined. Supplemented by his proficiency with Force Barrier, Kolzaar makes a formidable and highly unorthodox opponent.

Sith Warrior [+2]

Force Specialty: Force Barrier [+2]

Initially talented in this discipline, Kolzaar has advanced to a prodigy through diligent practise. His anatomy makes lightsabers unwieldy and, consequently, Force Barrier is often the only thing standing between him and a missing limb. It requires great nerve, daring and discipline to come so close to a lightsaber's blade and remain in complete control. But this proficiency allows Kolzaar to employ a much more savage fighting style, comprised of brutal kicks and rough grapples at maddeningly close range.

Force Drawback: Force Healing [-2]

Kolzaar lags far behind the other initiates at the art of force healing. If something should penetrate his barrier, he would not be able to set the wound or numb the pain. Nor can he heal the wounds of others. Any and all injuries represent a long term handicap to Kolzaar's physical prowess. Therefore, he must fight cautiously.

Reputation Initiate [Neutral 0]

Ambition: Kolzaar aspires to usurp Dobo The Hutt. To bring war to all the Hutts. To capture their criminal empire and claim it for himself. He also wishes to find his planet and his people, so that they may join in the war and establish their place in the galaxy as lords of crime.

Name - Zef Arkada, Human

Background: As smuggler born in hyperspace Zef has never felt tied down to one system or another. His early life as a scoundrel was a string of successes until he began to attract more powerful attention. An encounter with some rogue jedi that required his services led to the discovery that his uncanny luck was due to his latent force abilities. After consideration, Zef decided that the Sith, while more dangerous, would be his best bet toward unlocking the rewards that such abilities might bring.

Sith Inquisitor[+2] As a rogue Zef never was one for a fair fight. The longer one was exposed the longer someone had a chance to pick you off. Best just to be sneaky and underhanded and get them before they get you if a simple escape was not a viable option.

Force Specialty[+2] - Precognition: What was once dreams and intuitions has become visions and precise certainty. When there are seemingly unfathomable variables at play Zef has a staggering ability to pull a win out of nowhere.

Force Drawback[-2] - Conscience: The darker acts that other initiates seem to revel in do not appeal to Zef. He is more than their equal in terms of ambition but he is always hesitant to commit to these shortcuts to power. Sometimes he wonders if he should have just trained with those rogue jedi.

Reputation: Initiate [Neutral 0]

Ambition: Honestly all Zef has ever wanted was to live his life and fulfill his craving for adventure and excitement. Getting control of a planet or system would be great if he wanted to kick his heels back in retirement but he knows that he is decades away from wanting to do that. OOC I want to play as a Sith who isn't wholly evil, just ambitious. To see how long that can last.

Force Drawback: Empathic Pain [-2] - The version of just being generally vulnerable to other people feeling pain it just not great. Besides the fact that it'll almost certainly be getting triggered every turn your on Korriban, it's just going to come up way way way too much to the point where it'll either cripple your character or just become boring from overexposure. I think the root of the problem with the drawback is you are trying to both have something that ties into the empathy and that will mechanically punish you for doing dark side stuff. It seems like you're not really gonna be able to come up with a good one that does both. I'd recommend either picking one or the other. Ultimately though it's up to you what direction you want to go. What we need out of a drawback is something that's a) able to be triggered by both player and GM with clear conditions as for when it'll be triggered, and b) something that hits the sweet spot between coming up all the time, and coming up never as both are bad.

Force Insensitive -2 - This seems... very broad. Like am I reading this right, because it seems like your intent is to take a -2 to any force action that doesn't use your specialty. Fluff-wise it's also a bit odd. As it sort of sets you are as not strong in the force generally. It's at least not mechanically duplicative, so that's a step in the right direction, but over-all it's sort of meh. Maybe narrow it down.

Thus equipped by fortune, physique, and character, he was naturally indomitable, and subordinate to no one in the world.
Okay, let me give this one more shot, since you said on Discord that my intended effect was less of an issue than the way I described it.

Force Drawback: Empathic Feedback [-2]

When Zaya was first developing her empathic abilities, her own emotions were often uncontrollably affected by those of the people around her. She worked long and hard to control and eliminate this effect as much as possible, and was largely successful in doing so. There is one exception, however: when Zaya uses the Force to inflict harm on others, a portion of their pain is inevitably transferred back to her, to the point that it actively interferes with the use and maintenance of the abilities – her Force lightning will falter or her telekinetic grip will loosen. Outside of a combat situation, where focus and desperation can let her fight through the pain, she is reluctant to inflict harm on others and tends to have trouble when she tries.

Again, the intent is that outside of a combat situation she would have trouble inflicting pain or harm with the Force – which I think is common enough among Sith that it's not too narrow a drawback. Including combat seems like it would likely be too broad, but I wouldn't be completely averse to the idea, either, since I don't see her as being a combat-heavy character.

Edit: Okay, so upon further thought I think you're right that I was trying too hard to make emotion-based ideas work when they just weren't. I've come up with a completely new drawback and edited my original application accordingly. I think it still manages to be thematic while working much more simply.

Cut loose before the god eaters show up.
Now.

Zro reaches out and twists violently at the nimbus of energy surrounding the hurrying ensign. The human's eyes unfocus momentarily and it looks around in confusion. Ugh, such stumpy things, no wonder they're so unobservant. Zro's head bobs left then right on her graceful neck and she studies the grey clad human. The man's gaze sweeps over her repeatedly before it starts to squint in her direction. Slow slow. Almost all the scurrying stumpies on this ugly, angular ship are laughably slow to resist her.

A throat is cleared a little ways down the hall. A Chiss decked out in a tight black combat suit and tactical webbing laden with arcane devices is shaking its head. It opens its mouth but Zro hisses and flings her mind at it. It's like striking water. The Chiss' psyche does not resist so much as slide around her mental thrusts. It clicks its tongue and continues, "You know that won't work, Candidate Zro. Imperial Intelligence doesn't leave its secrets in minds so easily pillaged. The training is... extensive."

Zro relents and bows, as elegantly as she can in these stooped halls. "For now, sly one. But isn't that why you're taking me to this Korriban? To improve my abilities?" The skepticism is clear in her voice. Behind her, the confusion bleeding into fear, the ensign staggers off.

"I'm merely doing my duty as a concerned citizen of the Empire. Talent such as yours is worth commandeering this vessel for the trip." The Chiss smirks insufferably.

"I will take their secrets and I will use them to crack your mind open like a reef-nut, sly one."

"Of course, Candidate Zro. Until then, the captain has asked you to stop waylaying his personnel. It would be a shame if you addled the wrong reactor tech and we ended up as a particularly wide patch of space dust."

Zro snorts and stalks off, stooped beneath these infernally low ceilings.
