Playing through the game thus far, nothing I've seen has struck me as distinctly "90s". It keeps trying to tell me it's '99 with its Memphis-pattern decor and vague references to the Internet, but all the actual dialogue I've experienced thus far has been about crippling depression and perennial joblessness.

Isn't that supposed to be because Alex is a shiftless dipshit loser who's coasting through life as a sponge ala hipster avatar selecte Scott Pilgrim rather than an anachronic victim of a generation-erasing recession a decade still in the future from YIIK's alleged timeframe?

It could be. I think he compares unfavorably to Scott Pilgrim, though, because at least Scott Pilgrim had a band and other things he was doing in his life. There are dipshit losers, and then there's Alex.

In retrospect, I think my comment implied that 90s folks couldn't suffer from crippling depression and perennial joblessness, and that was my bad. It is to imply that this game's unique sense of humor thus far is firmly rooted in a bleakness in outlook that's well-established among my peers. I may not be far enough along in the game to make that assessment fairly, but this is something that I intend to examine more closely in our post commentary as we go along.

It feels like Austin in 2008.

I enjoy that you're going deep into the psyche of the game because we're just outright ragging on it.

Moving on to non-YIIK related matters....

In light of the recent(ish) English localization of Chaos;Child (fourth in the Science Adventure series of Visual Novels, of which Steins;Gate is the second), I'd like to request an LP of the first one, Chaos;Head.

Freelancer

I re-installed Freelancer again recently as it's been on my mind to play again for some time. I'm nearing the end of my current LP, I'll tinker around with Freelancer afterwards and I'll see if I feel comfortable enough to put something together. If anyone else wants to do it then feel free as my expertise mainly lies within adventure games.

I'd like to request an LP of Super Daryl Deluxe (for Steam, Switch or PS4, whichever). It's a metroidvania taking place in a weird highschool where basically imagine you're that weirdo New Kid from Stick of Truth, except you're the only one playing Not-D&D (well, not exactly, but you're the only one taking it to the "next level", so to speak). It has a bit of a slow start with a bunch of cutscenes at the start unfortunately, but it gets better about that once you get past the prologue.

S.L.A.I: Steel Lancer Arena International for the PS2. Going off of my (very lovely, very spotty) childhood memories, this game involves mech combat and mech customizing. I’ve heard it described as one of Konami’s better games before they went balls deep into the madness that is Metal Gear.

It's good game to play but it's not much to watch, unfortunately. And the music is a Youtube ban waiting to happen.

Sometimes it's not the bomb that's retarded.

I'm going to second the request for The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age

Needs editing, though. It's about 18 hours long, and half of that could be thrown in the trash because it's just identical battles.

What definitely has to be shown is Gandalf spamming you with video messages, one of the worst-written romantic subplots, and also the way they turned a major antagonist into a joke by sticking a fight with him in between a dozen war elephant fights.
Also, you beat up the Eye of Sauron. Just run up to it and hit it with swords.

I feel like I’m the only one who remembers this game for more than just its hilariously bad English dub but I’d love to see a Chaos Wars let’s play, preferably a video let’s play so that we could laugh at the hilariously inept English dub. I think I heard a story that the dub was recorded by the family members of one of the producers or something.

More people need to be introduced to this “majesty”. Plus I remember the gameplay being not awful.

I'd like to see an LP of Kessen, a strategy game for the PS2 that simulates the war that followed Toyotomi Hideyoshi's death and gave rise to the Tokugawa Shogunate. It was followed by two sequels that kinda took things into more of a fantasy territory, but while I'd enjoy seeing the whole trilogy, I'm singling the first out because when you start a new game you get this message -

which I think is pretty neat and at least shows that Kou was proud of this work.

I'm going to throw out a request for Wizard of Legend, a roguelite game about mixing and matching magical abilities to blast your way through a wizarding exam. It's cool as hell, but I'd love to see it played by someone actually competent. :v: It's on Steam and the current generation of consoles.

And also one for Card Quest as well, since I'm here. Available on Steam, an odd and fairly difficult dungeon crawler.

I tried watching that one, but the way he read the dialogue was a big turnoff for me. It's frustrating, because I had wanted to see an LP of DF as well.

With FrankZP's excellent LPs of Dragon Warrior 1-3 finished, and his LP of 4 nearing the end, it's got me wanting more Dragon Warrior/Quest LPs. It's a popular series, so there's got to be one for every entry in the Archive, right?

Almost. For some reason, there's no LP of Dragon Quest VI. Not even an abandonded attempt. There's 5 LPs for 1, 2 for 2, 3 for 3, 3 for 4, 2 for 5, 2 for 7, 1 for 8, and 2 for 9. Heck, there's even LPs for Dragon Quest Heroes, Rocket Slime, Monsters 1, 2, Caravan Hearts, & Joker. And an abandonded LP for Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors!

But nothing for 6.

So, let's rectify that! I'm requesting a Screenshot LP of Dragon Quest VI!

Carpator Diei

I'd like to re-request Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader. I still think it would provide really good material for a screenshot LP, and it did the whole "Leonardo da Vinci helping you with futuristic gadgets" thing years before Assassin's Creed 2 made it cool.
