Yeah I think it's pretty great. Functional, utilitarian minimalism that only the Japanese can do and enough screens to give me a technology boner. Only thing I don't like are the screen mirrors.

Replacing side mirrors with camera should only be allowed when the display is similar to HUDs....projected into infinity, so the eyes don't have to adjust focus to look into them. It's totally okay for stuff like rear camera for parking, but mirrors you have to check quickly? It's a solution to a problem that never existed, and the solutions is worse (okay....you gain some points in aerodynamics, but that's it). Every single review of the Audi E-Tron I red mentioned that the electronic side mirrors are not that good, and distract you from driving, because your eyes have to refocus when checking them. They will catch on over time as technology evolves, but the first implementation is bad, imo.

I thought that you don't need all 3 mirrors in the US, just a rearview or wing mirrors, or is that a state-to-state thing? When I was talking to a car appraiser, I asked if I could ditch my driver's side mirror for flat glass, since the passenger side had no mirror. He said that I might get hassled for it, but as long as I had my rearview mirror, it was a roadworthy vehicle

I've had the idea to go to cameras instead of side mirrors for time attack/track cars for the drag reduction. On a related note, lemans cars use a rearview camera setup that seems pretty neat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxOl0b8K6FY

Some of the aussie time attack cars have the cameras with a display like your video, like forrest, but he keeps the side mirrors for whatever reason. The mca car doesn't have a camera but no mirrors.

I don't know if it's state-to-state, but at least in California you need whatever the car/vehicle came equipped with. If it's an Aston Martin that only had one side mirror, you only need one. If it's an old motorcycle that came without mirrors, you don't need any.

Not a great idea though, and I'm pretty sure one got added, Car wasn't around long and didn't really get finished and run at it's potential which was kind of sad. That's a fun unrelated story.

I kinda like the car. Reminds me of the first two generations of the Golf. Small, boxy, utilitarian. Interior could still be decluttered a bit imo by hiding some of the ports behind a panel or something. Not a fan of the monitors but very much a fan of tactile controls and the faux wood. Looks a bit like cassette futurism. Plastic looks like it feels not good though. Would totally be happy to be seen in this e: it's going to cost as much as a BMW though, isn't it Lord Stimperor fucked around with this message at 10:41 on Mar 2, 2019 |
