NO THAT'S NOT ME!!

Hey, you guys remember that joke from a while back about taking a document, converting it too absolute hell and back, just to send it via some mundane method? Like they needed to email a document, so they printed it out, scanned it in as an image, pasted into a word document, etc etc etc. I think at some point it was printed out via gameboy advance dot matrix printer and even crocheted. Anyone have a link to it so i can show a co-worker?

Just filed a vendor ticket to close my support account with them. Only 5 more days at current job.

When I started at this place a year ago, I accidentally logged into my previous support account from muscle memory, and the one ticket open was from my previous supervisor asking to close the account. Along with a note from her saying "WHY IS THIS ACCOUNT STILL OPEN?"

A mail came in on Friday afternoon ...

"X is moving from location A to location B and starting Monday. He will need a computer to work on. He cannot take his computer from location A with him since Y is using it now and Y has as much right to decent computer infrastructure as X has. Maybe you can reinstall Z's old computer for A? If so, I'll bring it in tonight."

Of course, nobody informed me on beforehand X was moving locations. In addition, the last I knew about it, Y didn't need a computer since he works in the warehouse. And gently caress you, a lack of planning on your side does not make an emergency on mine.

In counterpoint: my VP insisted on moving me from my office to a cube, even though I'm leaving this job at the end of the week. I put in a move request ticket in mid-February, and the VP kept hounding me for updates. Since I have access to ServiceNow, I was able to see the notes which generally consisted of updates like "Will assign ticket" or "Will call user to schedule on $TODAY+1" but with no actual assignment or contact taking place. They finally moved me yesterday, and it was an easy move: 15 feet away, one docking station and one keyboard moved, one phone reprogrammed with my extension, done.

I was kind of appreciating that my VP was getting upset at the delay, so I'm sorry that it worked out in the end.

Yeah, the whole thing was very passive-aggressive and it pissed me off. I forgot to mention the COO was cc'd on the mail (because, of course he was). The COO gave me a call after reading it to ask what this guy's problem was. I replied to the mail stating I don't have spare computers lying around (we're a small firm) so I'd give it my best effort but given the lead time, to not expect wonders.

Nothing about moving workstation equipment is something I want my teams doing. The current office I work out of moves people very rarely, but when it comes up we have facilities moves everything. Its 2019, nothing involved in moving a laptop or a desktop isn't above the abilities of these guys to do.

We just did a major office shuffle, which required a contract company to do the dirty work. We got bins and labels and were told NOT to move anything to our new location or it would gently caress up the tightly controlled pallet ballet that took place over the weekend.

They did manage to gently caress up my teammate's mechanical keyboard, tho. He's not gonna let that one go. (That said, shoulda packed your own bins, duder.)

Those movers did your office a favor by loving up that keyboard. Not sure what make/model he had but in my open plan office we have two guys with mechanical keyboards that are so loud they sound like a stream of marbles dropping on a glass coffee table. For hours.

I get that people like the tactile response of a mechanical keyboard but the noise factor makes the rest of us nuts.

My boss has a Das Keyboard and I can hear him type through our shared wall. It's not bad, just noticeable. I can't imagine how bad it would be in an open office.

Never used Zoho Desk, but I have used other Zoho products. My general impression is that they are not terrible, but also not great. I assume Desk is going to be the same way.

That's why I got a tactile keyboard rather than a clicky one (home use). It's slightly louder than a rubber dome keyboard when I use it, but some people (my wife) pound on rubber dome keyboards so hard that it's louder than my mechanical.

OTOH my friend's brother-in-law/roommate has a mechanical and is so loud that when he was gaming I was sure he was using a really old rattly controller and was slamming the joysticks around as hard as possible.

When I went back to college one of the guys I was assigned to work with figured out that the projectors in the place were controllable by app as well as by the remote that came with them. He'd pair to them mid-lecture and just turn them off over and over to mess with lecturers.

It me, for all of 2 days, when I realized I was being a dick and got a Das with softer switches. I always sound like a goddamn ball pit in an earthquake, but it's a functional compromise, and my neighbors thanked me for it.

Not that it matters, now that we're next to the call center. Doesn't bother me any, cuz I came from there, but the rest of my team is a bunch of sensitive flowers who can't seem to handle the noise.
