I don't. Going for samurai edge on Claire A, I'm at the sewers monitor room for the first time at 1h7m. I remember the sewers being a slog but assuming I get through it quick will I have time to hop back to RPD before the labs to get the upgrades there? I don't have the SMGs or the locker room hip pouch yet.

I mean if you’re playing on standard don’t you have a 3:30 time limit? You’re like halfway through the game you definitely have time.

Thanks, I just looked at the things I need to do in the sewers and it's ridiculously short. I think I hosed around down there getting lost for about two hours the first time I played it.

Sewers are pretty easy when you get to the control room: Get the T tool and optionally safe upgrade. Kill the 3 zombies downstairs. Go to get the sewer key (optional) and go down the ladder. 4 inventory spaces for 2 plugs and flamethrower. Go back and then flip the switch in the zombie room to raise the gate. Head up the lift, get the side pack. Optionally unlock the door to head back to RPD. Get your last plug on the way back. Full sewers should take 20ish. RPD trip is like 15 depending how thorough. Then you still have an hour+ for the lab. Smirking_Serpent fucked around with this message at 03:51 on Mar 7, 2019 |

Smirking_Serpent posted:Sewers are pretty easy when you get to the control room: assuming you dont go back to the weapons locker the return to RPD takes roughly five minutes, but i've vastly changed my mind from earlier about the usefulness of the SMG. and especially on normal i don't think the pouch upgrade in the weapons locker is even worth grabbing. although i typically always make the trip on Leon to grab the magnum and that sweet sweet flamethrower fuel.

Provided you have enough grenades and gunpowder, you can beat even G3 by alternating between flame and acid rounds. Hi Power revolver ammo is good for the eyes

yeah other than needing to pop eyes which you can do with HP rounds (or even regular pistol ammo, the pistol does full damage on every enemy in the game so far as i know, the only weapon to do so) you can just use the grenade launcher as your main weapon starting somewhere around the beginning of NEST

The issue, of course, is that G3 doesn't stop walking while you're shocking, so it can be tricky to use against him. If you have acid rounds, you can stun him and then switch over to spark.

Are you supposed to Target the eye on G1, or just pump all of your ammo into him?

DEAD GAY FORUM posted:Are you supposed to Target the eye on G1, or just pump all of your ammo into him? Targeting the eye or head does full damage, and hits to the eye can also trigger a stun. Targeting anywhere else still hurts him, but not as much. Pump all of your ammo into him, but it's a lot more efficient if you can hit the eye whenever possible.

I'm actually impressed that you made such good time while passing by a typewriter to save that many times. I don't think I could map out a run where I saved every 5 minutes and still finished quickly.

I find it interesting that the largest logistical hurdle is just the RPD. Once you get to the sewers it is pretty straightforward if you've played through a couple times. Get to the lab and it is super linear.

The difficulty is definitely front loaded with zombies, lickers, dogs and X. Then sewers doesnt even have a single licker and Gs are fairly easy to avoid

In my defence I have a small baby and if I went for an S+ run he'd definitely be the number one reason for restarts. I never really went out of my way to hit a typewriter but I never passed one up and I probably hit save rooms slightly more often than an optimal run would due to poor inventory planning in a couple of spots. The return to the station added a few as well but the SMGs really helped with G3.

It's not even that huge an ammo dump. On the way in use a grenade to stun the first one for long enough to run past and dodge the rest (I think if the first one grabs you the second one will be stuck puking up babies). On the way out only two get directly in your path and you can flamethrower / sparkshot them.

the part with the g adults in the sewers could arguably be the hardest part of the game. it's like that, the west hallway, and i guess the room with all of the ivy's in nest. none of these parts are actually difficult if you know what you're doing, but all three of them are SUPER difficult if you don't know what you're doing. you can get two lickers in the west hallway plus god only knows how many zombies if you didn't board it up or come back a lot because of bad planning. the slidey boys are easy to bypass if you know exactly what to do and are surprising bullet sponges that can gently caress you up in tight corridors if you don't. and ivy's have that OHKO and have the special mechanic for keeping them dead. of course if you only ever go into the west hallway twice and or board it up, know the licker despawn trick. no problem. you only need to kill two g adults in the section where you go get the two plugs, and you can also bait their grab attack or slip around them if you can bait them into going underwater. and you don't have to kill a single ivy at all and they're actually the easiest enemy in the game to stagger since you just need to hit a single bulb. i think you can get through the nest while only taking two shots at an ivy and killing zero. so yeah. all three of those parts are probably the roughest. but they can all be trivialized.

The G-Adult section to and from the Flamethrower/Sparkshot room is the worst part of the game because it's all mandatory in a way that isn't fun. The loving things are either ammo sinks or require you to dance around like an idiot to get by them without shooting (or at least without shooting too much). I mean sure by then ammo isn't really a problem anyway unless you like to draw faces made of bullet holes but there's just something about the design of this section which stands out as being surprisingly and disappointingly lovely compared to everything else.
