The same thing happened to Dick Shawn, he was a weird alt comic and he had a heart attack on stage and died.

You might know him as the guy who played the weird hippie Hitler in the original The Producers

Redd Foxx went about the same way. You probably know him as the Sanford of Sanford and Son. A common theme of his work was faking heart attacks as part of an act for comedic effect. Well, after one particular rehearsal for some thing or another he, uh...wasn't faking. He fell over on set and died later that day.

The Great Twist

Tiggum posted:

Is that person dead? :ohdear:

This is one of the most terrifying things I've ever seen.

quote:

Direct contact is necessary to be envenomated. Faced with danger, the octopus's first instinct is to flee. If the threat persists, the octopus will go into a defensive stance, and show its blue rings. If the octopus is cornered, and touched, the person would be in danger of being bitten and envenomated.

The venom can result in nausea, respiratory arrest, heart failure, severe and sometimes total paralysis, blindness, and can lead to death within minutes if not treated. Death, if it occurs, is usually from suffocation due to paralysis of the diaphragm.

As of 2018 no blue-ringed octopus antivenom is available.

The only known treatment is by massaging the victim’s heart for hours until the venom works its way throughout the person’s body and dissipates.

The Ocean Conservancy even reported that not a single death by a blue-ringed octopus has occurred since the 1960s.

Ah, I edited that on the grounds they still envenom, but it seems lifeguards are better at dealing with the problem, rather than the octopus being chill.

Still:

quote:

Delamoor recounted an anecdote from a teacher who had performed CPR on a blue-ringed octopus victim. He did so until emergency services arrived on the scene, but the first responders were so busy saving the person’s life by prioritizing respiratory function, that they forgot to shield the victim’s eyes — which had been paralyzed, open, and staring into the sun for hours.

“Total paralysis, easy for the first-aiders to not think to cover their eyes,” he explained. “Caused irreversible damage. They permanently lost their vision.”

Must suck being conscious and having that happen.

This is amazing. As a student of history I can say I've read hundreds of things about churches. They were just windows to a past I've never lived in, buildings I never knew or would ever know. But bees in the roof made me stop and evaluate. Bees made me actually look at what was really happening. Putting something that everyone is familiar with in a situation that no one knows, and to make people feel those emotions well, that takes talent. Thank you.

I will not shut up about the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I talk about them all the time and work them into every conversation I have. I built a shrine in my room for the yellow one who died because sadly no one noticed because she died around 9/11. Wanna see it?
