It seems to size up to normal text size from one size smaller, if that makes sense. It happens super quickly upon loading a thread with a tweet.

I like the zoom. Tweet images are sometimes too small to read and this saves changing apps. It's good for avs too. Best of all you can't really trigger it accidentally.

I think this only happens while a tweet is loading, which makes me think it might be some bad CSS interaction?

Guess I’m in the minority here, I don’t like the zoom. Gives this weird “app is just a different way to read a website” feeling.
Sometimes threads do this weird flicker when opened. Like it’s not yet zoomed in right. If you can get rid of that I’m ok with optional zooming I guess.

Edit: pretty much what people posted above me

Well, yeah. This is factually the case. This app is just a bunch of custom logic and chrome generating web pages that are shown to you via safari web view. You are literally browsing a web page in an app. Welcome to the brave new world.

I think it’s a good idea, and you can only trigger it by pinching so it’s otherwise unnoticeable.

I’m not especially wild about the zoom, but it seems to have killed that thing where the view judders when scrolling because the pull-down toolbar is trying to come into view. So that’s a net plusplusplus to me

I've got "pull to next page" disabled, but the app does it regardless. It's also super-sensitive, so just scrolling and accidentally hitting the end of the page makes it go to the next. Annoying.

I'm having crashes while trying to view threads. Navigating from the forums tab, it seems like I can load one thread, but backing out and attempting to load another will crash. Through the bookmarks tab it just crashes immediately.

I've tried emptying cache and logging in again, is there anything else I should look at?

I'm scrubbing through screen recordings and I don't see any font change. However, things move around twice as the tweet content loads: once when the tweet text shows up, then a second time when the "chrome" around the tweet loads in around the text. Is it possible this is what you're seeing?

I know what you mean re: zooming taking away the illusion of the app. I don't plan on zooming very often, if ever; I'll probably forget it even exists (especially since I turned it on unintentionally). But I think once in a while it'll be super convenient and worth it.

The double-tap is a bit weird, but I'm gonna leave it for a bit and see if I get used to it.

For long-pressing images, can you link an example? And are you running Awful 3.54? (You can double-check the version in the Settings tab.) I fixed an issue with long-pressing things in that version, but maybe that wasn't your issue.

I haven't seen the issue myself, but based on the screen capture, it looks like the whole page view is resizing, it's not just the text. It looks like a tweet or whatever is loading that's wider than the page, then a split second later it readjusts to match the correct width. That's just a guess based on the video though.

Came across an open issue and figured I'd check before closing it like a jerk: is anyone having issues with embedded tweets not loading on iOS 10? If you're on iOS 10, please let me know either way. If you're not on iOS 10 but tweets aren't loading, also feel free to let me know. Thanks!

I figured it out, and you're 100% right: the whole web view was zooming. It'll be fixed in the next version.

The bottom bar interchanges between black and grey sort of randomly.

Also I am unable to long press images and quoted images to full screen them.

It's pretty much all images, tho on occasion I can long press and get it to behave properly. I have no idea what is different between my presses, so I can't reproduce the proper behavior.

The in-thread "Scale Text" quick setting doesn't work quite right. The first time you hit the minus or plus button after opening the quick Settings popover, it always sets you to either 90% or 110% respectively, regardless of what it actually was before. So if you e.g. open quick settings, tap "+" for Scale Text, and close quick settings, and then repeat ad infinitum, your Scale Text will stay at 110% forever.   #terriblefate

Messing around with the Scale Text setting seems to sometimes restore my ability to long-press a link to preview or copy its URL. Pinching-to-zoom seems to sometimes disable my long presses.

Alternatively maybe I just can't long-press to any effect on posts that have quoted images? Not sure currently.

[e: see next post for more/better info -- long-press problems now appear to me to be unrelated to the Scale Text quick setting.]

Request: when you long-press on a forums emoticon, add an option to open the emoticon in the image viewer like any other image? I like seeing the name of the smilie in the popup menu, but some smilies are half invisible on the dark theme, and the image viewer sheet put them on a white background.

love the zoom tho

Update: whether or not I can usefully long-press a link (for the URL preview, copy, etc menu) or image (for the image viewer sheet) appears to depend on the location of the long-press relative to the top of the thread view as initially loaded. So if I click this link to Mr. Fix It's useful-to-me post with a tall image, long-pressing on the screenshot does nothing at all:

Mr. Fix It posted:

However if you then Mark As Read on the previous post, the one by Trevor Hale, and close the thread then reopen it, you can now long-press on the top ~2/3 of Mr. Fix It's screenshot to open the image viewer sheet. The bottom of the screenshot is still un-long-pressionable however.

It appears like you can only usefully long-press on things that are within the first ~screenful-and-a-bit of the initial thread view. Showing "Previous Posts" with the relevant button also allows you to long-press any and all links/images that were prepended to the thread view after the initial load.

Agreed, it does feel a little weird. I know it's literally 'Web pages being shown in a web view', but other social apps like Twitter are also that with no pinch-zooming. An option to turn it off would be cool. Other than that, thanks for continuing to be the unironic best way to read this dead forum.
