Old James Bond are great examples. Other greats: Animal House, most/all John Hughes movies, Revenge of the Nerds, the list goes on. Chances are watching a movie made before, let's say, 1993 had a 92% chance of including and being cool with casual sexual assault which would be right about the time that Gen X came of age. jokes fucked around with this message at 07:46 on Apr 22, 2019 |

This kind of poo poo movie had to take a break during the late 90s but made a triumphant return thereafter when Boomers targeted what we now call older millennials/xennials with hot poo poo like American Pie and Anything Seth Rogan Is In as we were blind-sided as unsuspecting dullard paypigs.

It's one of those things where I remember watching those movies in the 90's or so and it wasn't noticeable, but in the last 10 years, if I ever watched one of those it gets really uncomfortable for a while. It's especially jarring in the "classic" comedies where sexual assault is played for laughs.

Do kids in school today not have to cover their books or something? Also, brown bags were cool, but the neon colored plastic adhesives were the best book covers.

Lots of schools are now handing out Chromebooks to students but some reports are that the kids are pissed because they just stare at a screen instead of interacting with the teacher or each other. Since boomers don't have school aged kids anymore then don't like when taxes go to things like modern books are smaller classes.

They don't pay anything for public schools in their taxes. My mom thought this was such a great deal because her kids have been out of school for almost 20 years. I told her it's bullshit because her entire community benefits from public education in the form of all the service people/employees they rely on for goods and services. She said that the cash registers are so advanced these days the employees don't even need to count change anymore. I asked her without public education, how would the employees know the difference between a penny, a nickel, a dime and a quarter? Never mind the fact that when she did have kids in school, there were plenty of old fogies in the area paying taxes towards our education.

Anytime some old fart starts in with this ..."back in my day..." poo poo, I immediately tune out. This kind of poo poo plus the faux-christian "I'm better than you, so you should be made to adhere to my version of moral standards that I can't even be bothered to follow" poo poo is the reason I told the vast majority of my family to gently caress right off.

I asked my dad why he considered it fiscally responsible for Scott Walker to borrow 800 million to pay for roads rather than raising the gas tax a bit and he furiously started googling on his phone to come up with a weak rebuttal about the state deficit. He tries to do this on Facebook and you can literally see his google string in the links he posts. It's hilarious.

I unironically enjoy how this thread transformed from "things boomers like" to "things I hate about boomers." Tapped into a rich vein of intergenerational angst (justified angst imo). Right when I graduated college in 2005, a bunch of my fellow early 20-somethings got brainwashed by boomers into thinking that buying property was the best thing to do with our newfound working-adult money. A lot of them also bought BMWs and other expensive cars right out of school too. Wonder how that worked out for them...

Back to the Chitown Frozen Pipes Goon: The reason why your hot water line froze is because the water in the pipes between your water heater and your taps doesn't stay hot. Even if they're insulated, they'll lose heat and drop to ambient. So, when it dropped that low this past winter, they froze because your water heater doesn't heat up all your pipes in your house... ...unless you have the hot taps drip.

My sister is infected with the boomer mentality. She is always trying to keep up with her friends and wants to constantly upgrade to bigger houses. She said if she had the extra money I have, she'd buy a bigger house. Why would I want a bigger mortgage and another 30 year mortgage? It's not like I even make much more money; I just don't spend it on stupid bullshit to impress others.

I asked her without public education, how would the employees know the difference between a penny, a nickel, a dime and a quarter? When Sun City was getting started it was zoned into a school district which meant they paid taxes to fund it. It also meant they were eligible to vote on district funding measures. So they proceeded to completely strangle the schools by stonewalling any spending whatsoever, until the district agreed not to include them so they couldn't vote them dry.
