So I just got to Gran Soren and at around the time I left off the last time I tried the game. Just a few class questions:

1. Apparently I should not stick with one class too long? Like switch out every 10 levels or so?
2. Do I need to pay the Discipline cost every time I want to switch to a class?
3. What is the stat distribution like for the Strider and Ranger classes? I get Fighter and Mage are strength and magic respectively.

Uh you can stick to any class you want. Theres no reason to constantly switch

Discipline cost for switching classes is paid once. All subsequent switches to that class are free.

Strider has balanced stat growth between physical and magic while Ranger is a bit more physically oriented. Both only have physical attacks though.

There is seriously no reason to worry about stats unless you want to. Let me repeat this since it seems to be such a hangup for people in this game, do what you want, keep your weapons updated and you will be fine with whatever. Just have fun.

I though it was said some pages ago that you shouldn’t stay in one class for too long

Not really? There are good augments you can get from other classes but if you're having fun being a Ranger there's no reason to switch to Sorcerer just because its been a few levels.

RaspberrySea

It's fun to check out other classes because they all play pretty differently. And you might want to buy Augments from one class that would work well in a different class, so you end up playing that one for a little while.

If you really want to check out stats then look at https://dragonsdogma.fandom.com/wiki/Stat_Growths .

The one thing I've seen repeated over and over since getting interested in this game (Switch release) is "you don't have to minmax"

and yeah, I played through the entire game as a Mystic Knight with only my main pawn and it was far too easy to warrant minmaxing. Unless you're into that, of course v:shobon:v

The only thing about cross classing is that because your class determines your stats on level up, you'll be gimping yourself if you say play a warrior for 50 levels then decide to be a sorcerer. You'll only have 100 magic attack compared to 250 if you were a sorcerer instead.

But later gear gives you like 800 attack so.. Not too big of a deal in the end game.

I think that may have been what I was thinking of

Iirc they arent too bad if you abuse those stones you bury in the ground and can teleport to (i keep thinking they are called moonstones but im p sure thats ultima) but its still generally better to spend your time doing pretty much any other content.

You can minmax ahead of time and it will make areas like BBI easier, but it's not necessary. I never did it and I still cleared out BBI, including the boss's second incarnation.

I would recommend doing a couple levels as a different class because a) you can have more augments, because many are useful cross class and a few are useful no matter what you play b) you can play the other classes at a higher level easier, because there is no such thing as a bad class c) certain monsters are just straight up resistant to whatever your class can do and while a properly made pawn is good, its a lot more fun to do stuff yourself.

You don't need to plan it out or anything but it doesn't hurt to take some time, grab a class you don't normally play and some gear, and wander around devilfire grove and the surrounding area and just kill some goblins. It doesn't have to be there but I like the camp in there in particular because its very close to every single large monster you can fight early game.

I don't think I've found Devilfire Grove yet. I'll have to track it down - I'd really like to fight more big monsters.

The affinity raising escort quests are (i assume) just randomly generated.

Do the Parting Tribute quest for Ser Berne when you arrive in Gran Soren because he's the one escorting you through the mines, then he gives you a kickass sword.

Playing on Switch, I am a little confused about how the pawn system works. How can I find friends’ pawns and put mine out there, or whatever it’s called? Is there a quest I have to finish, or somewhere specific to go? I’m level 17 and am at Gran Soren and have a bunch of quests. No idea which is even the main one haha.

RaspberrySea

If you've got your connectivity set to play online in your settings, every time you rest at an Inn, a snapshot of your Pawn will get uploaded. Anyone can rent them, either by randomly selecting you, or finding them through your friendcode or pawncode. If they hire your Pawn and then later dismiss them, the next time you rest, you'll get a message back that your pawn came back from helping someone. You'll get a rating, some rift crystals, maybe a gift and a message, and your pawn will remember any quests or locations or monsters it came across on its adventures.

You can go to a Riftstone to find Pawns to rent. You can search by level, vocation, gender, etc until you find some you want. You can also just it have it list Pawns that belong to your friends, or Pawns that you've previously rented. Pawns your level and below are free to rent. Pawns above your level cost rift crystals. But if they're a Pawn from your friendlist, they're free no matter the level, which is why there's always a Goon list for everyone to add each other.

If you made it to Gran Soren and just dropped off the head, your next Main Quest is investigating the Everfall and the Pawn Guild. After that it's the Wyrm Hunt quests.

A little tip is not rush through the main quests, because they tend to cancel quite a few unfinished side quests and often don't give you any warning about it.

The Warrior does have a major flaw through of only having 3 skills instead of 6 like every other class. That mod that lets them have 6 six skills really opens up the class.

Strictly speaking yes, but the only other inn proper is in Cassardis anyway. You can also change at the encampment and the entrance to BBI.

It ultimately doesn't matter much since two those locations have permanent portcrystals and you'll get your unlimited use ferrystone when you first reach Grab Soren.

Oh whoa! Instead of switching vocations I hired a sorcerer pawn with high Levine and lightning affinity. I drank a liquid vim for unlimited stamina, used a conquerors peripet, and owned this SOB. It was on the ground writhing or being shot out of the sky for the entire fight. Using unlimited, lightning enchanted, 5shot bow now skill as a shot gun against the wings followed up by nasty melee on its head.

What a great use of consumables in a video game! I never use consumables in games because I'm always saving them for a what-if later in the game. drat that was cool!

How many times must I remind you to WASH YOUR HANDS?

Special thanks to whoever uploaded the Geralt and Brienne pawns, they were incredibly helpful but I wound up getting to the end and never got a chance to send them away with an item or ranking. :v:

Really like this game! Shorter story-wise than I expected, and some story elements seemed weirdly truncated or something, but it's still charming and combat is great. My first ending up including Madeleine, though I'm not entirely sure why because I don't think I interacted with her much beyond taking her to the encampment and helping her escape the city. I would have been less surprised if the weapon guy showed up, honestly, I talked to that dude constantly :v:
