They're pretty much just "mainstream rock." Of some kind. Nail Rat fucked around with this message at 01:01 on May 9, 2019 |

We do have a pop thread but it would be extremely silly to bring Tool in there. There is a hard rock thread that needs some love as well. Anyway I’m not gonna like, throw probes out for it or whatever, but there are threads for mainstream rock that get little attention. I’m also surprised there isn’t a Tool/MJK specific thread, considering how Tool fans are.

At this point rock music is basically where jazz music was in the '80s or so (and has basically stayed). People are still making it, and can make a comfortable living off it. And there are enough people who still like it, including critics who are happy to tell you which artists are important and good. But aside from the very occasional crossover or guest appearance, it's totally gone from the mainstream. I don't think it'll ever be big again. Even rock bands who consistently sell out stadiums don't really make a dent in the radio anymore, unless it's a double feature with The Chainsmokers.

I made a case for that people still do, such as the fact that they can fill arenas in places such as Alabama and Kentucky (like in the past couple days) whereas the majority of indie bands that are discussed in this thread cannot do that, or let alone even bother to perform in those states. Then you show up being a complete oval office with this sort of derailment, accusing me of being a MAGA-shill. As Maynard from Tool would say: gently caress you buddy.

Tool will fill arenas in any area of the USA, and most of the world. I think they are doing the random smaller city tour thing to warm up before their album is actually released and they go on some mega world tour.. not to mention those cities don't often get major acts so it's a nice change for them.. not because "rednecks".
