Basically what Thom said. There is no reason why they couldn't have announced their plan to do something different and let the community exist in the meantime with the understanding that staff will only respond if they want to do so on their own time. The discussion and recommendation threads are going to be sorely missed while they figure out the "new" thing and they definitely led to a bunch of sales for VMP. Its just baffling that they could think it was a good idea to give the community 48 hours notice before pulling the plug on a forum people have contributed to for years.

It's a really nice piece and came in perfect condition (shipped from the UK to Japan). There still are a bunch left if my number is anything to go by, but it is a run of only 500 so if anyone likes the look it if then it would be best to get in soon, I suspect.

Got a u-turn special and I'm very happy with it. Sounds much nicer and plays better than my old Dennon.

Anyone know if their local shop is getting or got copies of the single of the new David Berman project Purple Mountains? Gotta get my hands on that if I can't track it down here.

Some guy I know, sort of, is selling all his records, so I bought a bunch. Get ready!!!

this band rules

i might already have this. maybe someone itt wants it if so. i'll have to double check

i normally don't get too excited over colored vinyl but this one is pretty cool imo

i first heard this when i was 14 or 15 and it was the heaviest and angriest thing i ever did hear. it's still one of my favorite albums

i had a t shirt of this when i was a kid. my dad liked it. :shobon:

unlike most punk bands, poison girls was founded by an older lady who already had grown up kids, who are the band on the b-side :3:

:hellyeah:

29 songs in 18 minutes :wth:

björk's in this, but they type it bjørk (fyi)

i def already have this. it was supposed to be a different color but it wasn't :smith:

this was a different color, though :unsmith:

so nice i bought it twice

:2bong:

:smug:

He also gave me these

You can read things Yoshimi said inside. I wonder if that's supposed to be Anla Courtis, not Alan. I will soon find out!!

Also this, which I am entirely sure what it is.

i thought it was a catalog of records/covers he designed, but maybe it's just an art exhibit, cos i can't find any of them online. some of them are pretty good

Super Roots 10 was a double LP in Japan with all the remixes but they split it into two separate releases in the states, you might wanna check and see before offering it up. It definitely has a different cover from mine (which I believe is Vol. 1 with the OG version on one side).

Man, I want more Boredoms vinyl. Any era, they need some repressings. Also tour the states again, it's been a decade since the last one!

Kinda funky, complex horn-driven goodness with Eric Drew Feldman on keys and a subdued Snakefinger on guitar. They did the score for the Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat cartoon. I appreciate them knowing the nerd audience and slapping a Ralph Records post-it note on it.

My wife and I bought a media console to store our small collection of records and put our turntable on, but the only space in the apartment that will fit the console is close to a radiator. I'm a little wary of storing the records near a heat source, but my wife thinks it will be fine since the radiator is a closed loop system so no steam is released into the apartment. Reading about it online seems to be a mixed bag so I figured I'd ask for some goon advice.

The console hasn't been delivered yet, but the records will be approximately four feet away from the radiator. Is that an ok distance or will it totally gently caress the records up?

even the attached story is rad

quote:

Today, I saw the intake sheets for the original tapes of Yusef Lateef modal jazz masterpiece ‘Eastern Sounds,’ held the original 15 IPS masters for Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Are You Experienced,’ drank some killer in-house-pulled ristretto espresso, and tried to keep three kids from running amok at Bernie Grundman Mastering as the master himself cut a lacquer of Freddie Gibbs and Madlib’s ‘Bandana.’

‘This is a very different sounding album than most of the hip hop music that comes in here, a lot of variety. I cut side B first as it was longest and realized I could get a normal LP level as there were a lot of interludes that gave way for the bassier parts,’ Bernie said. (I’m paraphrasing). ‘Very interesting album, challenging.’ .

I replied ‘I’ll take that as a compliment’ and he said ‘You should.’ .

We then shifted to a discussion of the test presses of Coltrane’s ‘Giant Steps’ that I recently acquired - and he explained why they probably sound better than the commercial pressing. (It has to do with the state of the stampers and the quality of vinyl back in the 50s.) I just love every moment I get with this living legend.

Better Days is great (sad that was the only one to not include a download, I like taking music with me,) and I love Herb Alert. M-m-m-megaprops to including high-res cover and album art in the downloads - I love it!

Bread Dragon also asked about an old Eau Claire band, Dios Mio. I saw them at a basement show at Sleazer’s Palace in 2011, and I had to dig through hard drives to find the photos from that night. Here is one such photo

And here’s like 40 more photos

The show started at the house, then cops busted it up, so the bands (and I) migrated a few blocks south to the community radio station, WHYS, just in time for the old Friday night noise show Increase The Pressure, where hosts Christ Almightihoffer and Nate Dungeon posed for photos and graciously hosted Dios Mio and supporting band Cavity.
