I understand the appeal of the concept, but I think practically it would take the fun out of both bicycling and getting hosed.

Facebook Aunt posted:Like that guy who video recorded himself taking his gun over to his neighbour's house to complain about their loud birthday party. Just standing there waving his gun around saying "I'm afraid for my life". Then one of the drunk party goers makes a move and gets shot. He killed his neighbour on his birthday in his own yard. He really seemed to think "stand your ground" would protect him. Well? Did it?

What is this product, exactly? It's like a Made-For-TV version of one of those old-timey exercise machines that don't actually do anything.

Facebook Aunt posted:Right. But dumbdumbs who take 'no duty to retreat' to mean it's cool and good to act aggressively and escalate every situation may be more likely to end a confrontation in violence. Advance aggressively until conflict occurs, then stand your ground. I know I heard a bunch about how Texas, the only other state with Stand Your Ground, didn't have the same problems in part because the law was better written(there is little or no vagueness about when its self defense, and it clearly states that if you escalate you are in the wrong). I have only ever seen the FL stats tho, does anyone have a comparison?

One Angry Gamer is a wonderful resource if you want to laugh at a bunch of shut-ins being triggered over loli rape games being removed from Steam, or be overly concerned at a bunch of racist homophobes existing in an echo chamber that will probably spawn a mass murderer or two.

That wasn't Stand Your Ground, it was actually some super old Texas exclusive law that says if someone it stealing your poo poo after dark you're allowed to use lethal force no matter what else they're doing. It was made to allow ranchers to protect their herds. The NRA-paid-for lawyer argued that since the escort was keeping the money but not loving him she was in essence stealing from him and the law applied.

Someone should shoot the lawyer and claim the defense that he was stealing your time by having to read his bullshit.

theflyingorc posted:I am very surprised this had not occurred to me before Always assume that a “cleaning my gun” injury or death was someone playing with a loaded gun. The one exception is Glocks, as they require the striker to be decocked to take the slide off. A lot of negligent owners (especially cops) blew up their TV or shot themselves in the leg forgetting to make sure the gun was unloaded first.
