Outta my way, ya dumb rah-rah!
I'm super bummed they aren't coming to Toronto/Just for Laughs during the September tour. So many other podcasts and past guests are here, it would have been a Doughboys slam dunk.

Ah well, at least I'm seeing Nicole Byer and How Did This Get Made.

Gabrus’ podcast is so much better than I had any expectation of it being. That’s all. Also belated thank you for the bonus ep suggestions.

Just listened to the Ben & Jerry's episode last night - with his Birthday Boys cronies around, Mitch is on one. He was equal parts feeling comfortable around them and going all out to make them laugh.

My favorite part is that he sounds so bored talking about getting his rear end eaten, and then immediately after starts passionately shouting about how much fun Slay the Spire is. I wouldn't expect anything less from the corniest white guy around.

(The best part of the entire PF Chang's episode was Kulap's "Nope." before Mitch could even finish his "I used to be pretty good at rapping" thought.)

Mitch knows enough showbiz people that I think he could somehow work the system to get himself on the Hot 100.

Hoo boy, Spoon's east coast provincialism is in full effect this episode.

What did people think of the first ep of "How Did This Get Played"? I give it 2.5 forks... some fun bits but didn't really grab me. As a member of Burger Brigade, I thought I'd be more into it, but Wiger & Campbell is just not as fun as Wiger & Mitch. It didn't help that I hadn't played that game.

I'm guessing it will take a few episodes to really find their groove, but I thought it was a promising start. I've never played Sonic '06 either but they did a decent job of talking about it more extensively than anybody else I've heard in the last 12 years (I didn't even realize the extended Sonic cast was in it.) Having audio clips was helpful.

Also, the episode introduced me to Sonic Underground, which...holy crap. They made a vow, their mother will be found!

It was alright, I think it has potential. They talked about how the podcast will be about bad or weird games and I feel like the eps on weird games will be a much better listen than bad games.

I know they've mentioned Superman 64 on the promo and I don't think there's a whole lot to say about it that hasn't been done to death (but I'd love to be proven wrong!). That same promo also mentioned Hatoful Boyfriend though and I'm looking forward to that ep.

I think it could be more interesting if they start going into more detail about their histories in the industry. I'd really like some episodes about the games Nick worked on.

I'll definitely keep listening to it for awhile to see how it evolves.

It was fine. Way too many ad reads. I get having the producer kinda sorta in the booth is a thing, now, but four voices in a first episode is a lot.

I feel like Wiger and Campbell both have really deep knowledge of games but Campbell is more willing and likely to outright own it, which is something I'd actually appreciate in a series like this. There are a hundred million WHOOOOOA THIS GAME IS SO BAD, MAN sources of media online but these two are smart and well-versed and I think are capable of blending that with their natural comic sensibilities, if they don't get too self-conscious and give their observations time to breathe.

This felt a bit rushed. I don't know if their mission statement is to actually go deep into the how and why of these games, or if they're shooting for the Doughboys formula of 65% honking off and 45% on-topic discussion (which not a lot of people can make work, honestly).

I want to like it and I wish them well.

Is the crowd badly mic'd or is the audience bored because they're at some music fest and randomly decided to watch a podcast taping? They didn't even seem that pumped that Jeff Tweedy was there and he put on the festival.

They recorded other live Boston shows, right? It'd suck if this was the only one after they finally made it to Mitch Town.

They haven’t done the Boston shows yet. This is at Wilco’s music and arts festival way on the other side of the state. Pretty much the only podcast-related stuff there revolved around John Hodgman (which kind of makes sense because he had/has a vacation home relatively close by). I’d guess that many of the attendees had no clue what the podcast even is.

eta: Friendly’s is the next Double, which they’re releasing for free
