I expected Williamson to come off as way dumber and less informed than she did. I thought I'd be gritting my teeth the entire time as she talked about a vague spiritual awakening as a substitute for actual politics...which I suppose she still kinda did, but I didn't even expect her to have actual policy stances or condemn bad ones.

She's been doing the positivity guru thing for decades now and she's really good at it. She uses all the tricks they teach you in Dale Carnegie courses, right down to memorizing quotes from famous leaders you can recite to back up your arguments, which are really just a rephrasing of what the person you're talking to said. (I think she'll do well at the debate if they give her time to speak.)

I can tell my Marxism is finally starting to get better because I was able to catch a lot of her words and translate it in my head in real time. This is good practice because I know a lot of people who, like Marianne are 80% there, but will never embrace an “orthodox” analysis. At this point in my development it is more important that I retain the ability to communicate with people like this than keep up with the discourse of the academic left.
