Again, I think it has to do with what you're looking for in particular. There are big-name YouTubers who are sponsored and influenced by publishers, but there's still smaller channels and reviewers who still put out good stuff. Some of them still advertise, sure, but it's sometimes for services not really related to game reviews (BlueApron, CrunchyRoll, NordVPN, etc). In those cases, it's because that's how they make their money (provided they don't get it from Patreon or something). With people who write for gaming outlets, I think there's a sentiment that a lot the long-time contributors have grown disdainful or have just gotten burned out with video games. Someone mentioned how reviewers have a 'queue', and I do think that is something that affects the critical lens for a lot of writers. A while ago, there was one person (don't remember who it was or what outlet is was for) talking in regards to Sekiro, and the need to finish the game for a written review, the video review, and so forth in a set amount of time. However, their attitude towards it made it seems like they saw it as an obligation, and that to me really colors their final opinion on it. Even if was a game I really liked, and they had come out and said '10/10 5 stars best gaem since mario 128', I'd still be skeptical of it, since it seemed like their heart wasn't in it, and they just pushed something out to be done with their work. It's not something that's done out of ill will or corruption, but just by the nature of the position. When you've got to review all the new AAA releases before your deadline*, you don't have the umpteen-thousands hours to time to put into a game like Street Fighter 5 or Crusader Kings II to judge how the game changes based on patches or how it fares between the first several hours of play vs a more long-term time investment. * Granted you could ask for a deadline extension, but I think that's veering into a another topic I wouldn't necessarily look towards YouTube or any gaming site as a whole, but rather seek writers or video creators who line up with the kind of games you're looking for, or whose critique addresses things you tend to focus on or care about in games.

I have noticed that Youtubers and streamers tend to be more upfront about it when they're getting free poo poo or getting paid to advertise something. It definitely happens exactly as often if not moreso, but the level of transparency about it seems somewhat different, in my experience.

Unsurprisingly, modders have already gotten to work on Bloodstained. Most of the mods are simple tweaks to make the map more functional, passive shards less gaudy. Or to over saturate your graphics. Then there's one guy who thinks the monsters need nipples.

I think part of the mental gymnastics for this is castlevania was INCREDIBLY horny in both directions for awhile, with SotN having multiple straight up naked ladies and that one rondo werewolf boss that had his dick hanging out when he died. Or the one succubus secret boss that straight up had free hanging tiddy even in her illustration, therefore Bloodstained is only restrained because of being a wider western release? Why do the nipples gotta be so weirdly realistic looking then???

Heart of Darkness (the original version, I mean) is  a very interesting mod worth playing, despite some of its terribly aged humor (especially quite offensive Vietnamese stereotype material with NPCs). It's a well-made mod that's also an intense satire of a whole range of game design paradigms from the time period (especially resident evil), and has some interesting core gameplay balance decisions as well.Then again I also think Half-Quake is a series everyone should play to completion, so what do I know.
