It's a little early to be burying Sarge. Plenty of people on AoS have survived a torso full of lead, and Sarge is a Coulson, and Coulsons have been difficult to kill.

I don't think Sarge has any idea who or what he is. He just knows that he's chasing Izel. By the way, am I misremembering, or did Sarge and Jacko do something to the Earth's atmosphere, or some shield to surround the earth, or something? I'm surprised that hasn't come up yet.

Better to end things in a controlled way. Agents of SHIELD has been one of the very few delights of the past 6ish years I've seen on TV. As long as season 7 works as well as this one has, I'll be glad for what they gave us.

While I'm sad it's going, I'm real glad they have an entire season to end it; S5's ending was phenomenal, and they didn't know if they were coming back then, so being able to go into thirteen episodes knowing that they have a definitive stopping point I think is going to allow them to do some real buckwild poo poo.
