It says there two other squadrons will be flying them for close to another year?

OK guys, I don't know what to do with this: This is Sir Hiram Maxim, of Maxim gun fame, lifting his aircraft engine to show how light it is in 1894. It is a Steam aircraft engine, making 180 hp, using naphtha as fuel. Unfortunately, the boilers and water for it weighted some 2500 lbs, and Maxim soon concluded internal combustion engines would likely get a better power-to-weight ratio.

In fact they've actually run out of space to park the drat things up in Seattle, so apparently they're doing storage down in San Antonio also now. Why the hell would they not stop the line?

We can make boilers that are about a million times better than they were 100 years ago. A modern high-tech steam engine might be interesting, but there's no will to design and build such a thing when it probably still wouldn't be quite as good as burning dinosaurs.

Well you still need the burning dinosaurs anyway unless you come up with some other way of running the boilers.

Jets appear to be Russian. Estimated time of intercept is two minutes. Return to base immediately. Maverick can feel deep in his gut that these are the guys. These are the guys responsible for Goose. GOOOOOOOOOSEEEEE he howls, as he punches the throttle and pulls up sharply. He flips open the console to reveal the emergency JATO system he had installed for this very day. His sunglasses flare with the light of a thousand beach ball sessions with Goose that would never come to be. Yeah, I remember reading the same, but the gubbermint put the kibosh on it. There were a fair number of interested private buyers when they were retired, but the process of de-milling the A+ and D models (which still would've left them with parts for the Iranians) would've been way more costly than just chopping them up. As I recall, some scrapyard in Hampton Roads with the gear necessary to munch up titanium got a really sweet no-bid contract to mulch the east coast Turkeys. The real life equivalent of that old "gently caress your canoe" joke (An Englishman, a Frenchman and an American are captured by tribespeople, who say the penalty for trespassing is that the interlopers may die by a method of their choosing, and then their skin will be turned into a canoe. Englishman asks for a pistol, "Long live the queen", blappo to the head. Frenchman asks for a rope, ties it to the nearest tree, puts his head through the noose, "Vive la France!". American asks for a fork, starts stabbing himself everywhere. Horrified, the chief asks, "what are you doing?!" "What am I doing? gently caress your canoe!")
