(and can't post for 11 years!)

Been casually thinking about getting a TV for the bedroom. Yesterday I saw an older 42" LCD on Craigslist. Toshiba Regza, $25. Posting said it'd "always been in a guest bedroom and had very little use".

I snagged it. They weren't kidding about little use - it has the original Toshiba batteries in the remote (keep in mind this is an 11 year old TV), and they still work. Surprising to find HDMI CEC on something this old (I used to have a lower end Toshiba TV from the same year, it didn't have CEC); hitting any button on the Roku remote turns it on, and the volume buttons on the Roku remote control the TV volume (it's an older 1080p Roku 3 with the headphone jack on the remote, but if you have CEC, the volume buttons for the headphones will control TV volume if headphones aren't plugged in). So I just need the original remote to turn it off and to turn on the sleep timer, and to change channels if I ever get an antenna for it. I'll get a super basic universal remote for it eventually.

I wasn't expecting the fucker to weigh in at 55 pounds. And I almost had a stroke when I saw the power consumption (rated 252 watts). But, $25 1080p TV that looks a lot better than a lot of TVs that were in my price range (I didn't want to drop more than $150). And it'll keep the bedroom toasty in the winter.

Ah, so not terribly unlike our primary system where the parties get to narrow down our choices to “bad” and “possibly worse” for us. Then we vote to let people we send to Washington DC vote for us, sort of. As far as I can tell, the current purpose of the electoral system is to subvert the popular vote. Dampen it, if you will. I feel your pain. I've been looking for a replacement for my wife's Juke for several weeks. The stories I have from dealers are beyond stupid stereotypes. It's like they're actively trying to be terrible people.

So, I tried a different tactic last night, a CarMax wannabe competitor in the Baltimore area has a 2018 Mercedes GLA250 at a good price. I tried to buy it last night, and I'm outside of their free delivery zone, so they were going to get back to me by noon today with a price (confirmed on the phone last night). I filled out all their disclosure forms and paperwork, copies of my driver's license and insurance, everything. I was going to wire them the money and be done...

except they never replied. :sigh:

Yep, feeling this. Been in the market for an SUV or van and have been trying different things without much success. Craigslist sucks now that it's not free, there's like 3 private sellers on all of autotrader, FB is terrible (and marketplace, as well), and I hate the dealer bullshit. I drove a car on Friday and told them I was going to look at other vehicles and already was texted, emailed, and called on Monday morning. Give it a loving rest guys.

Drove an Odyssey, wasn't crazy about it. Why does every van or decent size SUV have an old lovely V6?
Drove a CR-V, afraid it might be too small despite being able to fit (barely) 2 car seats in it. (fine for daily commuting but not weekend trips, but wife's Outback may be enough if we get a hitch carrier or roof container thing maybe).

Next up are probably driving a Ford Flex and a Traverse. Same big dumb V6 complaint applies to both.

I was originally test driving new cars because I'll be getting money from my accident, but that may be awhile now since I gotta go through all the injury protocol, could be a year or more before I see any of that. My payout for the xB will be around 8k and although that would be a nice down payment, my credit sucks and we'd still be stuck with two car payments then so that ain't gonna work. I really wanted a new Civic Sport manual but it's going to have to wait. In the meantime I need a loving car and used dealers are worse then new dealers, this sucks.

[e] I found another xB with low miles at a great price........And it's at a Mercedes Benz dealer in Palm Beach 180 miles away :v:

As far as selling cars might as well forget Craigslist, I am not even going to waste my time. Nothing but scam emails and texts.

So far eBay has been successful but now they are charging me $50 a pop to list a vehicle. Sold one van through Facebook marketplace locally. I have surprisingly had a few decent real responses from listing on Cars.com and that is free, but not a sale yet.

Also out of any foods weirdly I just don't like Coconut. Just is gross to me. But I can't really think of anything else that bothers me.

Was about to suggest a Flex, that is our go-to family hauler. They are an incredibly high value right now. You can find low mileage ones at a great price which just goes to show I overpaid by way too much three years ago when I bought ours. :sigh: It is the best non-minivan thing I think. I have been pretty happy with it for the ~30K miles we have put on it. It is basically a minivan but AWD, fast as balls, but limited on cargo compared to a van. We have only three kids and we are done with that so the cargo is fine. I specifically found one with captains chairs in the middle and no center console, so I lose one seating position but getting to the third row with car seats in the middle seats is a breeze for the little ones. If I was to change it up I would probably consider a 5th gen 4Runner. I really like how they look. Something else not horrible and a great value is the Lexus GX models. They are based on the Land Cruiser Prado chassis and are really capable vehicles.

Ours has been bulletproof for 5 years and 40k miles. The AC is exceptionally strong. The motor is super willing to pull, the CVT is the only weak part. With a manual, it would be a legit fun car. 188 turbo hp in that little car makes it scoot.

Legit suggestions: either a ‘13-‘14 Mercedes GL450 (4.7 TT V8) which is in every possible way a better car than a Flex/MKT/Explorer/other FoMoCo shitshows built on the same platform, or possibly a 08-11 Land Cruiser or LX570.
