It still has that vibe in the UK. Nobody's ordering it as take-out when there are loads of superior local pizza parlours, but all you can eat for £7 is OK if you're just heading out to lunch with workmates.

I think there's also a lingering fondness for it among people of my age. Pizza was virtually unknown in the UK until TMNT came along and Pizza Hut was the first franchise to go mainstream here and offer kids the pizza pie that provided turtle power.

Pizza yesterday:

I went for pepperoni, haggis, black pudding, jalapenos, lamb donner, Irn-Bru pulled pork and it was amazing. Washed down with a couple of cocktails made from a mixture of rums, fruit juice and Buckfast (it's a Scottish restaurant chain, natch).

I would do sourdough, tomato sauce, mozzarella, lemon herb chicken, and red onions. Perfect.

Probably because it's been having its 29th derail in a row.

I had a pizza hut pizza for the first time in years and it was definitely a premade pizza crust and I know for a fact that they used to at least actually make their pizza from regular pizza dough.

Well don't you know I'm caught in a trap?

I was in Plymouth England with the Navy, and we went to this nice little wood-fired pizza place on the water, get some delicious wood fired pizza, waitress delivers it, and my rear end in a top hat buddy asks if they have Ranch dressing to dip it in, the waitress spins on her heel and says: "WHAT? Oh my god NO, that's so American!"

That's my UK pizza story.

But for the first time in my life, I think I've gone too far.

Isn't it against every credit card company's rules (and actual laws?) to charge people more if they use credit cards?

Are those surcharges normal for Australia? 12.5% for using you credit card and 10% for going on a Sunday seems insane. I'd be walking out the second I saw that on the menu.

I can't imagine how salty that would be. The haggis would overpower everything else.

Like, still would but maybe with enough people that I'd only have a slice or two.

Now blood sausage in a burger is top tier Scottish food.

It's 1.25%/1.75% for cards, presumably to claw back the fees. It's common for small businesses to just refuse Amex here (UK) because the fees are too high. The rest is madness, why would a restaurant advertise they charge more on the days that people would actively seek to go out for dinner?

If you read the article this comes from, it's because of having to pay people more at these times.

And not, you know, being a garbage restaurant run by idiots with no idea about food or how to run a business.

Spalec posted:

No. Smaller businesses sometimes have a surcharge for using a card, but it's pretty rare these days and you can sometimes avoid it by using EFTPOS instead of credit/debit. Usually it's 10% (or a flat 50¢) on transactions under $10, zero if you spend over $10.
