I'm pumped about the casting tho, everyone looks different from my mental picture but at the same time it feels like they really nailed them. Just need a solid Lan and Thom now.

I can't decide who would be a good fit for Thom, but I haven't liked any of the suggestions I saw on reddit about it.

I think a new WoT thread would be good when we get actual news from when they actually start production, which I believe is slated for towards the end of this year? In the meantime I've been hatereading the various comment threads on tor, ars, etc., for the new casting, to power my final form.

Yeah, my family member was just ranting about BLM and how Robert Jordan had a VISION for what a character looked like and we should respect that. Also my kid isn't white and I told him to gently caress off, my kid can be any character fictional or otherwise that he feels like.

For a few of the later books the "prologues" were essentially teaser trailers for the books, and released early, so that kinda got them bloated I think.

Towers of Midnight's prologue is less than 40 pages long. Compare that to Winter's Heart 85 pages long prologue, or Knife of Dreams' 95 pages long prologue... Torrannor fucked around with this message at 20:45 on Aug 19, 2019 |

I thought Rand may actually scale back his "I must be stone so I cannot have feels" or whatever after seeing his dad. Once he hears about Cadsuane, I thought he was going to legit kill Tam. Then I realized that important characters hardly ever die, so seeing him realize what he did then gently caress off into a gateway was pretty expected. The next chapter was pretty funny. *goes to Ebou Dar and tries to vaporize the Seanchan* *pukes and crawls into a gateways to Dragonmount* The prologue of book 13 was pretty cool. I love reading POVs that you rarely get to see (the Foresaken and Padan Fain)

RC Cola posted:Agreed on that. Padan Fain sucked I gotta wonder if this was cut down because Jordan died and Sanderson didn't know what to do or if even Jordan had lost sight of the character. I always envisioned him as WoT's Gollum and figured he'd have one last part to play before the end. I guess it was just stabbing Rand in the chest and nothing else. Same thing basically happened to Demandred. Also the Talmanes bits in the prologue of Book 14 are possibly my favorite prologue.

As far as I know "Padan Fain is NOT Gollum" was one of the few rock solid Jordan Facts. You know, like how Mazrim Taim definitely wasn't Demandred.

I think it makes more sense that The Creator and The Dark One are emergent personifications of the elemental forces that power creation than that mortals can ascend to that level of existence, which is more of a Brandon Sanderson thing. The understood metaphysics of the world of Wheel of Time is that mortals souls are woven into the weave. It makes no lick of sense whatever that a soul can be entirely unspooled into something else.

i picked up the first sanderson WoT book for the first time since i read it in 2009 and god did I ever forget how much Light Bondage is going on. i recognize that much of that is basically Sanderson being given a set of characters who already have a very high baseline amount of bdsm stuff going on and having to write his way out of that. but boy do I hope the tv show severely tones that stuff down eke out fucked around with this message at 04:05 on Aug 21, 2019 |

If anything they’ll prob turn it up. I know one of the early news suggested they are going to “fix” Rand’s harem by making them go full polly which... could go either way at this point but could be an excuse to make it even more porny.

Going by recent tv history we're already ok with translating incest/pedo rape for depiction so I'm pretty sure swooning over 'light' bondage and poly harems is clutching pearls at best. Get over it.
