Healthy young podcaster goes on Chapo, gets pumped with massive shot of dialectics, doesn't feel good and does podcast series on the October revolution - MARXISM. Many such cases! https://twitter.com/mikeduncan/status/1165036751850737664

So I'm just about done reading "Old Man's War" by John Scalzi, and man, Liberalism was in a really weird place in the early years of the Iraq war, huh. Its a bunch of Joss Whedon snarktastic "fluent in sarcasm" shitheads who loving Love Science, who all tell the reader "Endless genocidal imperial war is necessary and good, and if you think its bad you're an idealistic idiot." Complete with a section where they massacre striking workers that's presented entirely without any reflection. Real bad.

American liberals are all one rude service worker away from turning into Monarchists so you can just imagine what 9/11 did to their brains.

People who weren't politically conscious at the time won't believe this, but the Bush years were much, much worse than what we're currently living through.

My dad is and was a full on Alex Jones 9/11 truther so I was actually pretty engaged at the time even if it was in one of the dumber ways that you could have been. What I remember from that time is every "normal" person turning into a braying psychopath who thought God was personally on their side and wanted to kick off the modern day crusades as revenge for 9/11. There was way WAY less dissent back then and religious fervor was the order of the day.

In one of my high school English classes we had to give persuasive speeches on hot-button issues (gun control, abortion, gay marriage, etc.) and my topic was the Iraq War. It had only been underway like 6 months by this time but my whole argument was how many troops and Iraqis would die while we were there and how the WMD thing was a sham because Rumsfeld went on Meet the Press and said "we know the WMDs are near Tikrit" but obv we still hadn't found anything. Before I gave the speech the class did a show of hands for how many were for the war, against, or neutral. Almost everyone was for it with a handful of neutrals. After the speech I didn't persuade anyone into being against it, just moved a few more into the neutral column.
