Speaking of FF8, I recently got my hands on a copy of Threads of Fate (in drat good condition too) so I took my ps3 back from my brother. Now this guy was doing nothing but playing TT and even doing poo poo like farming the prisoner for Rosetta stones. He played for 50 hours.

I eject the disc out of my ps3. It was disc 2.

Seifer and Squall being the way they are makes so much more sense when you reflect on how every official we see in Balamb Garden is some shade of terrible.

Imagine a real life teacher telling their student "you're a failure and w ill never amount to anything."

Balamb Garden is a spectacularly hosed up institution but it's never treated as anything but a cool high school.

Anyone have a fix or is this a problem with the game?

It is. The first one's localization, however, was handled by Square.

ETA: Square didn't help matters in making it apparent who the game was from, also. They slapped their Squaresoft logo on the front of the box, and "From the makers of Final Fantasy" on the back. So thinking it's from them isn't surprising.

One of the worst parts of the nazi virgin loser thing is how they're trying to change the meaning of the word "censor". The way they're using it is completely wrong.

And even if it wasn't, these companies are choosing to make these changes voluntarily and are agreed upon by committees. These dumb dickholes make it sound like the government needs to step in and arrest people who work at a Japanese company for violating the US Constitution or some stupid poo poo.

seifer has a reputation in balamb as a power-tripping rear end in a top hat so that's more like the student council president telling the class bully to gently caress off

oh he can fight; he's just an arrogant rear end in a top hat who, given command, shows all the tactical sense of a particularly aggressive boar

I don't remember anymore but IIRC Seifer had been at Balamb for a long while too so Xu's putdown seemed appropriate--for teenagers looking to score social points, anyway

Stupid FFVIII spoilers: They were all kids about the same age at the same orphanage, so how has Seifer managed to fail the SeeD exam multiple times while Squall is just getting to it now? And they're supposed to be big rivals? What, is Seifer like 4 years older than Squall and it's like an 18-year old was arch-rivals with his 14-year old little brother?

Edit: and Rinoa is supposed to hook up with both of them? What sort of age gap are we talking here?

Seifer is 18 and born on the 22 of December
Squall is 17 and born on the 23 of August

So Seifer is like a year and a half older than Squall. So, depending on Balamb Garden school years, he had anywhere from 1 year to a 2 year head start.

"Final exams" are literally mercenary missions they let students go on. It's not like they are on a set semester end timing. It seems like you can get put forward for any mission that has an examiner and some space for an extra kid to come along.

Squall was a delayed student because he is so furiously stupidly shy. Up to the exam, he had to basically get his rear end kicked in finishing his prereqs because he was busy playing grabass with Seifer.

I always assumed Seifer was a prodigy hothead who showed loads of talent at a young age but was never mature enough to put it together. He's the Ryan Leaf of Final Fantasy.

On the flip side, Quistis is only a year older and is already an instructor too.

At least the game does explain that Quistis was a prodigy and basically skipped ahead a few years.

Depends on the years, of course. The may have only been born 8 months apart, and if it is currently, say, July, Seifer would be 18 and Squall would be 17. If it was currently September and those were the ages, then yes, they'd have to be a year and 8 months apart.

But seriously, everyone at Balamb Garden needs therapy. FFVIII Cid might look like Robin Williams but he has none of his teaching or leadership ability.
