Individuals are unable to address systemic issues as the systems involved have long ago grown beyond any one person or even group of people - but we still want an individual solution we can do now, whether that's banning plastic straws, cancelling the chapos, or going full fash. At the end of the day we're all a bunch of tiny cogs who realize that we're about to tear ourselves apart and then melt and there's no way for any of us to do anything meaningful in the time we have. I’m a nobody database nerd and I’m pulling down more per year than the individual Chapos. People who complain about the money have no loving concept of the world they live in, and are sheltered rubes. They’re like toddlers when you ask them how much a cookie costs.

For what it’s worth, I think chapo is genuinely doing good things: for me personally, they introduced me to Derek Davidson and his extremely good Foreign Affairs newsletter, and motivated me to be active in my union. It’s very reductive for these Twitter ransoms to squeal and call it a grift when it’s also genuinely good outreach for leftist causes.

the best way to describe Chapo is that clip of one of them talking about european fans saying they love the show, it's funny and they have good convos and all, but they don't know who their 'friends' they make inside jokes about are, and it turns out those 'friends' are the niche rear end columnists they dunk on because yea no poo poo most people don't know who fuckin Sunny Bunch is.
