Whenever I disable SIP, I do whatever fuckery I have to and then reactivate it as soon as I'm done. Nice to see a justification for that.

Swiping on the keyboard would be a lot better if it didn't loving auto space when i used a suggested word. And is it too much to ask to have the comma on the same screen as the alphabet? Some of us actually use punctuation.

So I know Lowtax won't be able to hire someone to code the website again anytime soon. So instead, does anyone use some plugin for Safari that does a pseudo dark mode? I saw Google do it earlier today for the first time, and now wish it worked here.

That was about 6 moths ago so I’m not sure if the rendering is better now.

There's a Safari Extension entitled simply "Dark Mode" that works well for me with SA. Even survived the upgrade from 12 to 13.01.

macOS 10.14.6 Supplemental Update 2 is out, uh, yippee? We need an emoticon that's the opposite of the siren. Also, the main Mojave installer has been updated to fold in this update, the old installer was version 14.6.03, the new installer is 14.6.06 and is slightly larger. Update your flash key installers!

Now that iOS/iPad OS versions of Safari have full download managers, I need some help lining things up from there to Safari on my Mac. By default iOS Safari saves to a new “Downloads” folder in iCloud Drive. Safari on OS X still downloads to the downloads folder in my home directory. Is there an elegant way to link these two locations so I only have to run hazel rules on a single folder? I already moved my desktop and documents folders from home to iCloud Drive, which is a setting in the iCloud Drive system preferences. I’m a little surprised that Apple hasn’t set up something similar for the downloads folder.

Last Chance posted:Safari -> Preferences -> File download location, been there a long time I apologize, I got a little lost in the weeds and forgot to mention that I’m aware of that setting. I’d prefer not changing it in Safari, since it’s standard behavior in Mac OS to save there (for example, Chrome saves there, Finder has home folder downloads as a quick link, etc.). I was thinking an alias or system link made sense to make the two folders one-in-the-same, but perhaps I’m just over complicating it.

Aside from the Downloads Finder quick link, I don't think it's a systemwide thing at all. Chrome has a setting for it too. I imagine it's not moved over to iCloud by default in the same way as Documents/Desktop because it ends up being a place where people end up with a ton of large installer files and porn videos that may or may not be trashed arbitrarily.

Speaking of Safari. Coworkers Safari crashes instantly on startup. Doesn't even pretend to start... Just goes straight to error screen. Does the same in safe mode. While looking up how to reinstall Safari I found the only method is to totally reinstall macOS. Really?

re: AdGuard, anyone experienced this? I whitelisted the forums, and twitter & youtube embeds work fine. However, I cannot navigate to either site. They just open a tab and go nowhere (the blue line thingie never progresses past the initial inch or so). I tried reinstalling to no avail. Pausing AdGuard has no effect. Quitting and disabling all the extensions doesn't work (however, it enables ads on other sites, like random newspapers etc). I can still load youtubes & tweets with Chrome/Firefox. Normally I wouldn't mind never going to either site, but sometimes a goon forgets to embed or a twitter image has the punchline cut off...

fwiw, clicking the page dropdown in Safari 13.0.1 (13608.2.11.1.10) on this literally 10 years old machine — newest OS it is even able to run is 10.13.6 (17G8030) — works immediately without a hiccup.

Silly but quick question: does MacOS have a way to execute a one-shot CLI command without opening a terminal window? Something similar to Win-R in Windows, or Alt-F2 in most Linuxes. It seems a little silly to leave an entire terminal tab open just to sit there on my "firefox -p OtherProfileName" command, for example.

I think I remember seeing a plugin for Spotlight that let you run terminal commands from there.

Course there's no feedback or terminal window popping up to confirm the command (other than errors) so don't gently caress up I guess. withak posted:I think I remember seeing a plugin for Spotlight that let you run terminal commands from there.

if you make a text file called firefox.command, drop in your firefox -p "profile" thing into it, and make sure it has execution privileges you can just link that .command file to your dock or make a shortcut or soemthing and spotlight will also pick it up. running that file will just execute the commands inside of it, sort of like a batch file on windows

A weird thing is going on with my Finder and Synology NAS. I want to mount the docker volume automatically. Finder already mounts and connects as my NAS user when I'm on my home network, but it mounts all the volumes EXCEPT docker's. Every time I close the finder window, I have to cmd+k the docker volume manually. What gives? What's special about that volume. It doesn't happen in the new samba interface on iOS's files, but it does happen in VLC's network tab.
