Sure but almost all places that do are a lot cheaper than the super nice places that it doesn't.

Well if you throw in a "super nice" qualifier then it gets a little tougher. How do you feel about turquoise and bolo ties?

Airbag went off because of a pothole in Michigan

My husband and I were driving in Michigan when we hit a pothole in our 2007 Ford Focus. In that Ford Focus there are airbags inside the front seats. The driver's seat airbag went off upon impact and insurance has deemed it a total loss, because the repair costs would be over $3,000 and more than the car is worth.

The Michigan Department of Transportation website says "If your alleged damage claim is $1,000 or more, you can recover only by filing a lawsuit against MDOT. You should consult a private attorney if you want to pursue this option." Is it worth it to get an attorney and try to get the money to repair it or should we just take the insurance money and find another vehicle?

Driving on publicly maintained roads in MI is seriously BWM.

Ditto. It's not like you can drive normally on ice or snow with snow tires. You still have to know how to drive on ice and snow. And you can do that just fine with all-weather tires if you know what you're doing.

All-weather tires are going to be even more important since climate change means some temperate areas will have 70F Februaries and April snowstorms in the same year.

It seemed crazy to me that this would cost $3k to fix but, I guess replacing the seat air bags is extremely complicated: https://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/general-technical-chat/410210-drivers-side-seat-airbag-deployed.html

TIL: you have to reflash the car's memory if an airbag goes off, plus if you install a new airbag that hasn't been coded to match your car's VIN, it will probably go off immediately after you hook the battery back up :v:

I had never been chased by a literal cloud of mosquitoes until I visited northern Canada one summer. (On topic to the thread, basic goods are so much more expensive there that living there is definitely BWM. Like Hawaii but worse.)
