Unfortunately not, Bitcoin is reasonably resistant to attacks using quantum computers. Mining doesn't benefit a whole lot and transition signing uses elliptic curves and hashes, which together are also reasonably resistant to quantum computers.

Maybe some of the old transactions (which used a different way of signing without hashes) could be brute-forced. I would like to see that, both to get some of the old Satoshi butts in circulation to do some magic to the price, and to gently caress over Dr Craig S. :wrong:

Bunch of shitcoins probably use RSA which is hosed if quantum computers.

i thought elliptic curves weren't that much "safer" compared to plain ol' RSA/DSA, they're just used cuz they have smaller key lengths for the same level of protection

I suspect the security guy at his new job tried to mine butts using their server resources. The same guy has randomly removed all dev keys from the instance just a couple of days ago, so he's definitely dumb enough to do that.

The worm wasn't created to infect servers, so the message is tooled towards someone with tonnes of terrible and compromising porn on their PC. In this case 'the public' may only get terrible and compromising code.

oh i know, it's just silly to me that "you'll never be able to unlock your files!" is immediately followed by "if you don't comply we'll unlock your files and make them easily available, muahahaha"

Yeah, most of the security comes from not having the public key in the first place, only the hash.

I can easily imagine starting sweating about that in a business environment too; if somebody took a customer database for ransom I'd definitely like it back, but I'd hate even more if it was uploaded to the internet.

Ross has now written a blog post about how badly the criminal justice system needs to be reformed. Among other things, he says:

Keeping people in prison for long periods of time is cruel and immoral, regardless of the crime.

Prisoners should be allowed to choose their prison.

Any/all prisoners should be allowed to pay to be released from prison, regardless of the crime.

Calls himself a victim.

I know that the real reason is probably just market manipulation, but I do think that the bill in Congress stating that all stablecoins should be treated as securities that got tabled yesterday might have something to do with scaring the tether crowd
