Agreed, the only time dropping parts work is if they can combine into a separate extra robot/vehicle/weapon or something in that regard

I figured that was exactly what Bandai had in mind when they selected the 4 post interlock design. IMO its pretty cool they give that kinda freedoms to kids. Most of their other toylines are all unitransformable stuff.

Okay now that Treagar has been beat up what threat will appear strong enough to challenge Tri-Strium Taiga?

Going cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs is not how I envisioned he'd take the defeat, I thought he'd just shrug his shoulders and try something else, like reviving Belial or something

Goddamn I love the TriBlade, it reminds me of all the toys I had in childhood that had rotating flint wheels, I wound up wearing out all the sparklers in every toy that had them, which was usually space guns of some sort. All it needs is something to shoot tiny plastic coins / disks (you'll put yer eye out kid!) to complete the nostalgia.

Oh I'm not arguing against dropping parts. It's lazy engineering. I've been complaining for years about the lazy mecha they keep making. I had hopes for Ninninger, but then they poo poo the bed with Lion HaOh and I haven't bought a mecha since.

Out of curiosity, where are you watching Taiga from and is it subbed (last I checked GenmCorp was only up to episode 11)?

Either the usual curse of pie-in-the-sky fansubbers (RIP OrangeLion) or they're distracted with working on the batch for Kamen Rider Decade.

Also, in other news, Best Bird Boy finally has the rest of his body set to release as a Figuarts. This makes him IIRC the third Kamen Rider character who's using the new face-scan tech for a Figuarts, alongside Takeshi Hongo and Dan Kuroto. There's also Dan Moroboshi but he's not a Rider, he's Ultraseven.

Uh, just the usual Tsuburaya Channel on YouTube. Once an episode finishes 'premiering,' you can set double translation, like from Chinese to auto-translate English. The results are pretty terrible with either Chinese or Japanese, especially compared to the polished GenmCorp version, but at least you can follow the story. I wonder what's up with those guys, probably focusing on Kamen Rider for now..

BTW, yesterday was Susumu Kurobe's 80th birthday!

While I know these are very recent series, it'd be a disservice to the franchise to put them as the pinnacle of male relationships when Blade (which got official Kenzaki/Hajime merchandise) and Decade (where Kaito is canonically gay for Tsukasa) also exist.

01 episode 08
I love this series.

Let me go over all the stuff I liked

Consequences!
From Yua running around with a mitella to running with a bad arm while transformed.
As a result the villains actually look threatening. (You paying attention Wizard writer?)
Isamu apparently hiding his laugh so well that the Aruto's aid didn't detect his smile.
Triple Henshin already. :) What a glorious mess of special effects. Nice positioning of the heroes as well.
Loved the grasshopper crushing the bird much to the distress of Jin.
I loved Jin a lot anyway, I like his running gleeful commentary of everything that's happening.
Horobi is properly menacing with an awesome finisher.

Not too long ago we talked about the physicality of stuff like belts in rider shows. I like how they're currently doing that as well in this series. Most weapons and the progrise keys have to be carried into battle for them to have access to it. Which in turn allows fun stuff like last episode where Isamu steals Aruto's sword from his aid.
But now also the way Horobi and Jin got their weapons. They stole them and carried them into battle.
Asumi didn't bring the shotgun, so he couldn't use it.
But also the way that Aruto's aid was doing an Ankh and providing Aruto with the keys in the order that he needed them.

Preview

I wonder if Isamu will get some cybernetic parts. With the current theme and the preview it seems like something they would be going for.

There's also this weird parallel where Asumi forces his Keys to open before using them, while Jin and Horobi use forcerisers to open them.

That first thing is almost certainly going to happen. Presumably this would be the start of development for him if he gets machine parts put inside of him too, or at least has his life saved by Humagears. Plus I mean, I'd think some augmentation would be necessary after you get kicked through the neck.

I wouldn't compare any of those to actual gay relationships though.

All that OOO stuff looks aces. Zero-One Sodo hitting this week. Looking forward to that.

Digression. I finished Jetman. Ended up hating it. Spoilers for an old show:

    The Good:
  • Radiguet is committed to being a bastard. Two shots at redemption, but nope! He just wants to be evil. Also liked his monster form.
  • Gray is a drinking smoking, philosophizing robot. I can't not like that. Nice costume too.
  • Tran's violent puberty into Jin Matoba Tranza is hilarious. Tranza's fate is pretty drat cruel (that bastard Radiguet again!)
  • One of the later giant-monster fights is shot on a soundstage outside. It looks nice.

    The Notable:
  • Random civilians die! On screen! Even kids! It's still more sanitized than any given episode of Doctor Who, but it was definitely a different era of Sentai.
  • Some nice visuals at the start, and sporadically throughout.
  • I think someone in production watched Evil Dead before filming the last three episodes.

    The Bad:
  • Lots of setups, but no payoff for much of anything.
  • I don't mind romance plots, but I need to care about the characters. I really didn't.
  • Boring Mechs, boring monsters. Jet Icarus may be one of the lamest sentai mech designs.
  • The tone is all over the place. The soapy stuff doesn't work with the grittier stuff, doesn't work with the cartoony stuff, doesn't work with the slightly more grounded stuff.
  • The world feels empty. I don't know why because we get lots of side characters and extras but it feels like the main characters exist in a vacuum.
  • Was the ending supposed to mean something? Gai is so stubborn he won't ask for help after being stabbed? Was that Radiguet's final curse?

I'm glad I watched it, but it could have been six episodes, and nothing of value would have been lost. Not at all up to it's reputation.

Haven't watched that season but the more I hear of it, more I am thinking getting the collection was not worth it. An assumption on my part, but maybe it gets more credit than is due because it looks kind of like Gachaman but got really dark at points?

I know my own interest in it was because I once fanfictioned a Sentai team and my result was basically "ToQger but with airplanes instead of trains".
