A green egg is super pricey, but is great for grilling or smoking. For a third of the cost you can get a decent propane grill.

I had no idea they make dual fuel kamados. I thought they were all charcoal only.

Steve Yun posted:

Can be. Intake and vent controls can be a bit more finicky on the non-BGE grills and there have been complaints about the porcelain flaking and cracking on some brands. We've had our Visions kamado for six years and it's been good. Surprisingly the claimed 10 - 15 minutes heat up time is reasonably accurate. Not as fast as a gas grill but quite workable. Heat has to be adjusted upwards when bbqing in the snow.

Sounds like Nanigans might be after something more like the table top miniature kamados in electric or gas. If it doesn't run on charcoal I have no clue.

i've bought one on craigslist.

as strange as it sounds, i've cold called dealers and asked if they have used ones and gotten a hook up twice this way (from the same dealer).

I wanted to chime in on this. I have basically the exact same thing. It's fine for things like creme brulee but if you're trying to reverse sear a prime rib or anything that isn't just a few square inches this thing sucks. It also is a real pain in the rear end to fill with the butane can although it really shouldn't be. I would totally agree with getting the real deal (it's almost the same price) as I plan on getting one before Thanksgiving.

HA! HA! NICE! WHAT A TOOL!
I bought a searzall and only use it to melt animal fat in the stupid rubber bottomed metal mixing bowls I cant put in the oven so i can toss vegetables in them.

The bernzomatic works great though, couldnt recommend it more highly.

Off the top of my head I use mine mostly for humus, nut butters, pesto, chimichurri, and carne asada. There are some pie crust and other dough methods that use it too, though I don't.

pie crust with a food processor has been amazing. I have very warm hands, so making pie crust by hand is always a huge pain in the rear end since the butter melts quickly. The food processor gets a very similar if not more consistent result every time. I used to hate making pie crust before I learned I could do it with a food processor.
