NtotheTC posted:It still has a poo poo load of protocols and utilities from GNU. If you want an OS* that doesn't have Stallmans gross cheeto-fingerprints all over it your only option is Windows Mac OS is a micro kernel (their original pre-NeXT OS) and a monolithic kernel heavily based on FreeBSD, but essentially copied the architecture rather than lifted the code wholesale. Linux was written after this, based on neither, and is a single monolithic kernel. It's why it's vastly more effecient and runs most of the servers in the world. Windows is essentially the MacOS model but without the monolithic kernel and cobbles together everything one should do out of higher level components. This is why it's largely slower, larger, and fundamentally insecure by design. Saying they're all the same because some userland tools and switches share the same name is like saying every car is "basically the same" because they have a steering wheel and a button that says air conditioning.

Khablam posted:MaxOS has nothing in common with Linux at the kernel level, which is what the comment is about. Appreciate the big dumb effort post. If they'd taught you reading comprehension at your fancy private school you'd see that I didn't say "all OS's are the same" I said "they're inbred" which is something I'd have thought you'd be familiar () with. The original point was that Richard Stallman, noted toe-scab eater, has a load of involvement in MacOS just the same as in Linux and has that has nothing to do with the specific kernel the OS uses so not sure why you brought it up? e: oh you brought it up because wicka said BSD-derived which was entirely not the point we were talking about so that's another indictment of your expensive education. the kernel is a component of an OS not the OS itself. Your statement parses as "all versions of linux, unix BSD and MacOS are essentially the same because they use opensource somewhere". Which is dumb, so feel free to make an actual statement that isn't just you walking it back whilst trying to throw in some 'gotchas' AKA all your posting.
