this is one of the better connected scatterplots i've seen, there's like actual messages and stuff in it so i feel like the work to decode it is rewarded, unlike, say DarkHorse posted:What, you want that this should be legible? But that would take work! idk, the fact that the trends are moving in different directions is interesting

I agree, but they're all comparing the trends from 1990 to the present, and they're all vastly different demographics (for all that separation of generations is mostly hokum in most cases) It's interesting that silents retiring in the 90's and gradually dying out are mostly on the diagonal, while boomers were at the zenith of their earning potential and Gen Xers were just coming into the scene at the same time, but it makes comparisons of them difficult You can get some interesting info out of it, but you've got to dig and it makes 1:1 comparisons Masaryk impossible imo

Memento posted:Gosh, a strong correlation between fewer hours of sunlight and higher rates of depression? It's more complicated than that. From Variation and seasonal patterns of suicide mortality in Finland and Sweden since the 1750s: quote:Suicide rates in Finland and Sweden peak twice a year. Both men and women in both countries most often commit suicide in May. There is another peak in October, with the exception of Finnish men. These suicide peaks coincide with a temperature increase in May and the biggest annual drop in temperature in October. We also observed a monotonic long-term change in the Swedish statistics, but not in the Finnish data. Our hypothesis is that seasonal variation in suicide rates may be caused by abrupt temperature changes twice a year that trigger the activity in brown adipose tissue and deepen depression.
