This is a personal bugbear of mine. There are podcasts out there who actually review the shows, even watching them more than once to get accurate notes. And then there are podcasts where they shred a show for 15 minutes before mentioning in passing that they "watched" it by seeing 5 minutes of clips on YouTube.

On the tiny, tiny chance that this isn't trolling, I'll say this: Being racist is NOT the same as being an out and out hood wearing Klan member. This genuinely is, I think, where a lot of the generational contention is around the discussion of racism and any kind of bigotry these days, because to a lot of people, older people especially, being called the former is equivalent to being called the other, when it's not always the case. Racism can be unconscious, it can be small moments that add up, it can be using a hurtful word without thinking about it because it's never been used against YOU in an attempt to lessen you. And I long ago learned that the "deep inside I'm not racist/sexist/homophobic/transphobic" excuse is a losing battle that people try to get you into in bad faith. At the end of the day I can't see inside your head or heart. I CAN see and hear what you say and do. If you say and do bigoted poo poo, I'm not sure it matters if you truly believe it, because at the end of the day, it appears the same. And like a lot of things in wrestling: Perception becomes reality. If it looks like a racist duck, quacks like a racist duck, then I don't care if it doesn't think of itself as a racist duck, because to me, it sure seems like a racist duck. I'd also like to thank Bix for doing work in the trenches and bringing to us the latest Cornette stupidity without having to listen to it myself.

I only ever see clips posted of Cornette making GBS threads on AEW and the indies, I’m not gonna subject myself to his bullshit but I’m curious does he ever review RAW or Smackdown? His fan base seems to be the type that think Baron Corbin is a good heel and like, are they just taking up his opinion like they usually do?

He used to sporadically review RAW but stopped because it was killing him and he said it wasn't even entertaining enough in a bad way to spend time making GBS threads on it. I'm sure he'd be able to find praise in certain aspects just to poo poo on AEW but at the very least there are things he legitimately likes about AEW (Cody/Jericho/MJF) and he hasn't stopped watching it yet. It is funny that he always makes some comment about how the product is only appealing to "x number of people who are already watching" as a way to belittle it as niche and unappealing to the nebulous Mainstream Fan he's invented, but the number keeps growing every week.

Separate topic: Has he run off almost everyone who would be offended by the, well, offensive stuff? I've been listening less lately, but listened to part of this week's JCE (because the lawyer stuff is newsworthy and I'd like to be up to date), let it keep going because I was doing the dishes, and...oof. There was a point where it seemed like Brian was trying to talk him down a *little* bit on the "Japanese schoolgirl" stuff by pointing out that Shida doesn't fit that bit the way that Riho, being tiny and young after starting obscenely young, at least could maybe be argued to. (I'm not saying she does.) And Jim wouldn't have it, continuing with the whole weekly thing about Omega having a "Japanese schoolgirl fetish" that leads him to push Japanese women who he doesn't think an American audience will ever find relatable. While the totality of it is even worse, his week to week version of this is basically that: * Kenny Omega is pushing Riho (and Shida) because he has a "Japanese schoolgirl fetish" and is putting her over for that reason, often outright saying that it only makes sense if he's loving her or at least trying to. * Britt Baker is/was the "obvious" face of the division in spite of him and Brian constantly agreeing that she's too green for that right now, because only "Anime fans" will have any interest in or relate to Riho (and/or Shida). * Even if he skips the matches, he will poo poo on anything with the Japanese women because "outlaw Japanese schoolgirl wrestling" must be inherently inferior to the NXT women's division. (Although he also thinks NXT has too many women's matches even when they run two in an episode and both are good.) (And he's aware of the Omega/Riho backstory, which makes it even worse.) Even before you get to the sometimes suggestion that Omega is a pervert who groomed Riho from age 9...how has THIS poo poo not been getting him in deeper poo poo? For as many people who have argued about his "intent" with the fried chicken/Ethiopia line, he clearly has some malicious intent with this stuff.

The Omega/Riho stuff aside, Hikaru Shida is a gorgeous, bad rear end, cool as gently caress good wrestler and not thinking there was anyway someone could find her appealing unless they had a "Japanese schoolgirl fetish" is seriously "WTF?" My first instinct was to compare it to the infamous "Vince had to be convinced people would be attracted to Gail Kim" thing but like, that seems like its just lowering Shida to the same weird sexual level Cornette seems to be thinking she can only appeal to.
