I need some help finding a quiet typing/gaming mechanical keyboard thats on a cheaper side. Full or tkl layout. RGB is not important, its a plus if it has white backlight.
Design is whatever, its is going to be a gift of sorts.
Anything below logitech crabon g513 price I felt drowning in the ocean of chinesium knockoffs and "mechanical" membrane keyboards.
I was looking among cherry mx browns as they promise quiet sound and only 45g of force but I honeslty don't know. Or romer-g.
I never learned to type without looking (but Id love to) let alone used a proper mechanical keyboard for longer than 10 minutes.

typers like keys where there is a point of activation you can feel, like a point of resistance you have to push thru to make it work

gamers traditionally don’t like the fatigue this gives them especially if it’s repetitive pressing, and they want keys where you don’t feel the activation points

browns are the first type and they aren’t quiet
reds are the second type. they don’t have an activation sound but all kinds tend to make a noise when you bottom then out unless they have rings on them

clears and blacks are same as browns and reds respectively except require more pressure and in the case of clears make them good coz browns are too easy

Got me a split mech keyboard delivered from China. It's good. Not the highest build quality in the world (layers of acrylic to make up the case) but it feels solid enough and split boards with nice build quality are expensive as poo poo.

Browns are good. Not too noisy for the office even without O-rings - only about as loud as my previous membrane board. Makes typing at home feel like dogshit though.

Is the iKBC TD108 an goode keyboard? It's like 9x :10bux: and has cherry browns and I think I heard they were good or something?

It's got volume keys and the Caps Lock/Number Lock/Scroll Lock lights which are kind of "must haves" for me.

Are you outside USA? It's still $44 from amazon.com brand new. I can't get one cheap up here in canada anymore

i got a different model iKBC at work and it's good, very solid construction and the PBT keycaps are nice. the position of the indicator LEDs sucks though, they're right between two rows of keys so they aren't really visible at all. my coolermaster board has them in the empty space above the arrow keys, way better visibility there.

since this is the input device thread ...

the barcode scanner at work was putting and extra CR or LF at the end of every scan and was inconveniencing me for a few seconds a couple of times a week so I fiddled around in the device settings to no success so looked it up and the solution is to print out a document with certain bar codes and scan them to enter settings into the scanner

Pile Of Garbage

yeah that's pretty standard. a lot of barcode scanners are configured by scanning special barcodes. the implications of this are obviously hilarious and i think there's already been a defcon and/or blackhat talk about it.

I work at a hospital and that's how we configure every single one of our scanners here.

So after finishing my first 60% keyboard posted a few days ago. I decided I needed another one!

So now I'm building a 66% Clueboard style keyboard!

Case is all printed, just waiting on parts now, this one will be hand wired as the case isn't really designed for a PCB and plus the Clueboard PCB is eternally sold out it appears.

Thought I posted this but apparently not. I finally got around to making lubed Copper Pandas recently - Kailh Copper stems and springs in Invyr Panda housings. It gives a more premium feel and sound than the regular Kailh Coppers, which are basically MX Browns with an earlier actuation point.

I’m breaking these in with some DSS Dolch caps on my Ergodox EZ.
