Don't forget the fire suppression system. The pantry is probably big enough to hold a bunch of ingergen tanks.

My new question is why there is only an L shaped counter instead of an island or something to break it out from the rest of that giant space that is now logically your formal dining room. The old dining room can be an office I guess.

Edit: I don't like that you have to go around the bathroom and pantry and through that other room to get to the kitchen from the living room.

All good questions - the architect hasn’t been in the house so far as I know so there’s a couple missing things including an island in the kitchen that has the sink and dishwasher. Pic from when we were still remodeling, the first time...

... and having not seen the place in person apparently the architect wants to put a door to the pantry where the range and microwave is.

I also don’t like going around. I sent the builder feedback this AM and asked for a revision where we open up that corner of the kitchen and make a Butler’s pantry style hallway.

Supposed to be 44 in Melbourne tomorrow, at least the car and the office have aircon. Might park the car in the warehouse to get it out of the sun!

We've got ducted AC too. I've had to set up a water mister on the back of ithe outside unit to wet the condenser down just to assist the poor thing because when its 43 degrees, it cant pull enough heat out of the condenser to keep up with keeping the house below 26 degrees.

That’s a good idea. Something’s a bit fucky with our unit. Last night I got home and there was no air coming from the vents despite the unit being on.

When I switched it off via the thermostat and turned the fan on, still no air movement from the vents! Went under the house to have a look and there was some serious condensation on the pipe leading to what I assume is a heat exchanger, and an ice buildup too. After leaving the air con unit off and just running the fan I have air movement again.

Is it possible the air con froze the heat exchanger solid? Hopefully the drat thing works today because the chance of getting someone to service it is non existent

Check your furnace/blower air filter, poor airflow can lead to the condenser freezing over

This happened in my house when the ducting was too small for the unit, so you probably have some sort of blockage or restriction. Ours was fundamentally flawed and expensive to fix, hopefully yours is something simple.

That huge fire to the north of the Blue Mountains is now 15kms away and 43C forcast in the fire area. We have a southerly windchange late afternoon which... actually is hugely bad news for the fireys as thats just going to supercharge the fire and anything north is going to get smashed. Had a call today that involved getting up onto a greasy, steel slanted roof in the rain. Tried to set up as safely as I could, and took on step on the roof before I knew there was no way I could do it.
Went to get back down, slipped, and had the ladder slide out too.

Only ended up falling like 8' or so, but landed on a wood deck and the ladder. Didn't break anything, but my wrist hurts like a mofo, and I got a brace on now.

Falling off a roof sucks, but it sucks a lot less when you're young.
I used to sled off the garage roof with a 10' drop. Busted my tailbone a couple times. No problem.
I fell backwards off the top of the chimney 40' flat on my back in the yard and cracked a bunch of ribs. I was like 15 and went to school the next day.

Now if I stub my toe I feel like that warrants taking sick leave.

I think we’ve been exceptionally lucky and not lost those townships. There’s been impacts on them- dozens of houses lost between Woodside and Lobethal alone and the Melbas chocolate factory has burnt to the ground but I think due to an absolutely super human effort on behalf of the volunteer fire fighters and their air support they’ve managed to actually save the towns.

I’ve heard from one mate who’s been out fighting this all day, still haven’t heard from my workmate and his daughter who have been on trucks all day too...

This thing is going to be burning into the new year. I still have no idea on the status of my plantations, but if they’ve either been burnt or heavily smoke logged the koalas won’t eat them and that puts us in a very very difficult position finding enough food for the fuzzy bastards

If this is something that hasn't happened before, it's likely either a clogged air filter (and/or something restricting air flow), or it's low on refrigerant.

Keep the fan set to "on" 24/7 for now, it'll help keep it from freezing until you can have someone look at it.

Cripes.

I'm not sure if you'll be able to watch this in Oz, but if you can.... this is somewhat relevant. It's about one of the major fires in California. So many failures at every level, from the firefighters that initially spotted it to the local government. It's amazing more people didn't die in that. If you can't view the video, this sums it up a bit.

A nurse at the local hospital kept going back and forth driving patients out of the hospital; Toyota replaced his heat-damaged truck for free. I'm sure Toyota did it as a calculated PR move, knowing they'd make back the money they spent on the truck many times over, but it's still an incredibly nice gesture. Also a bit of a testament to how tough their trucks are - he literally drove it through fire, all of the exterior plastic melted, and it kept going. I'd assume the plastic/aluminum radiator probably melted at some point, but I haven't found any articles that go into specifics about the damages the truck suffered beyond cosmetic.

I would actually expect the radiator to hold up a lot longer than the bodywork, thanks to being full of coolant. The engine would probably overheat before the radiator was physically compromised.
