tbh a hot war with iran will probably stymie a nominally anti war candidate like Bernie winning an election in the first year of the war because Americans will view de-escalation as losing, this is less an attempt by trump to avoid impeachment news cycle or w/e and more capitalism once again preemptively favoring fascism to a rising popular sympathy for socialism but ultimately war with iran will further solidify socialist thinking in gen z which will be necessary in the future The boomers lived through the greatest expansion of the american empire and reaped its benefits, sapping any of their own counter-culture tendencies and forgetting the leftist sympathies of the great generation gen z will live through the decline and socialism will be the only alternative to barbarism

For a hot war with Iran to benefit Trump, it would require the perception that it is at least going semi-well, or at least that the US is making "progress", whatever that means. I think Bernie is the only candidate that could pull it off, but I do think there's a genuine opportunity for an antiwar candidate to harness the blowback from a hypothetical hot war to win in spite of Trump's attempt to rally around the flag.

yeah if the US nukes Tehran it will establish that the US is willing to use nukes at pretty much any time with flimsy or no justification which will send the entire rest of the planet into panic mode, and it's entirely possible that someone in either Russia or China decides that since the US is inevitably going to nuke them too eventually they should take what little advantage they're going to get and strike before that happens I want to stress that 'if the US nukes Tehran' is an extremely big 'if', though. despite certain lunatics in high positions in US military leadership really wanting to use them in both Korea and Vietnam it never happened, even though the US outright lost one of those wars and the other was an inconclusive stalemate that they would have lost if they didn't manage to work out a negotiated truce.
