I too am incredibly surprised that a website full of 15 year old obsolete answers to computer programming questions is having some difficulties finding moderators who are in touch.

For some other fun, pop over to the arduino help forum and start asking stupid questions. It's like the saltiest stuff ever if you don't format your code properly.

From what I can tell reading through pages of "explanations" is that one of the main moderators refused to use "they" as a pronoun because it doesn't fit grammatically or they are religious

I'm not sure which makes you a more pathetic perpetually online blight on humanity. Caring about pronoun drama on the programming site you moderate enough to quit in a huff, or caring about the pronoun drama on a programming website you have nothing to do with so much that you have you tell everyone about it elsewhere.

The crusty old dudes who care about posting in SO instead of just using it as a knowledge base are exactly the types who would make a big deal out of this.

Fried Watermelon posted:From what I can tell reading through pages of "explanations" is that one of the main moderators refused to use "they" as a pronoun because it doesn't fit grammatically or they are religious This was the gist of it. The author also didn't give any examples of how she can avoid using they and how it would hurt their writing, which I caused some side-eyes from me. But being totally oblivious to the problems your squeaky-wheelness, no matter how logically sound your reasoning, is right up principled computer toucher forum moderator alley, so this is not surprising.

Computer touching trains people to be obsessive about the exact form and content that they type. Unfortunately, they are then permitted to continue associating with normal human beings, instead of being relocated to containment centres.

A Bakers Cousin posted:Is sechristian just some esoteric scripting language? Best I can tell some pastor that may or may not have ever coded annoyed stack enough they let him open stack Christianity. The drama starts with him having a melt down over "they". Which I get. But now they're firing employees and a ton of mods are resigning in protest, and the pronoun stuff seems to be lost in the mix. The computer touching bit comes in as the company is changing their open source licensing now, I think using the drama as cover but its hard to tell. Creative commons peeps are upset, but given how unpleasant most of those people are, the company could be fine and its transphobes using it as cover. Otoh corporations are pretty evil too.
