My mom retired and moved to Tampa and when I went to visit her I drove through a weird little town full of trailers and shacks. Later I learned that this town was founded by and still largely populated by carnies.

Gibsonton, the traditional winter town of carnies over the eastern half of the US. wiki posted:It was home to Percilla the Monkey Girl, the Anatomical Wonder, and the Lobster Boy. Siamese twin sisters ran a fruit stand here. At one time, it was the only post office with a counter for dwarfs. Aside from the agreeable winter climate, Gibsonton offered unique circus zoning laws that allowed residents to keep elephants and circus trailers on their front lawns.

Beachcomber posted:I remember from the 90s there was a series of Australian flash (shockwave?) games and one of them involved running over cane toads in a truck. Lenny Loosejocks. In that timeframe, it was almost certainly Macromedia SHOCKWAVETM, not Flash. It was more of an interactive wrapper in which there were multiple games, one of which involved trying to navigate a disused minefield filled with UXO; the solution to which was hidden in a painting in the wrapper's "art museum" section. There was also a sequel game that was a point-and-click adventure where Lenny is transported to the future (the secret at the center of the minefield was a bunker containing a time machine) and has to travel across the Sol system, solving puzzles to disarm planet-destroying bombs planted by a hostile alien empire. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm now going to re-enact the "he chose... poorly" scene from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, having been violently reminded of the fact that when I found/played that poo poo, it was through AOL, and jesus christ allmighty how can i possibly be this old already that i'm telling others about my recollections of the dial-up era of the internet

Baron von Eevl posted:My mom had an aunt that lived in Orlando back in the 50s, had a small farm and some chickens. The road she lived on was unnamed, and since everyone would just at things like "go about a quarter mile past [her name]'s street" eventually they just named it [her name] street. There's a lot of those. At my old job I would be sending certificates out to people in rural areas whose street was the same as their last name and only had the one house. Family just stayed there long enough it became named after their house when street names were required.

Billed as "Hangover Pizzas," this one in particular has housemade chorizo sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, chicken, cheddar, bacon. Breakfast pizza is loving incredible.

Yeah I mean that cosplay definitely isn't bad and is creative at least. It's not in the same vein as Budge Cosplay Guy, but at least she's not doing Cammy or Quiet 'because she's really cool'.

All cosplay outside of Halloween is cursed by nature. But that is very very mild on the curse scale.

It's extremely rural with a ton of dirt roads. Since everyone's address was Route [x], Box [#], there wasn't much use for names. It only changed when the routes went away for 911 service and it was easiest to name the road after a longtime resident. I think my grandmother lived in Orlando briefly in the early 1920s. Her father was in the turpentine industry and they moved from place to place, mostly in Florida because of the abundance of forests. She also recalled living somewhere in Florida called Cash Money.

Taika got the season finale of The Mandalorian and he went from a Red vs. Blue sketch with Jason Sudeikis as a scout trooper to making everyone in the audience cry. He made a comedy about imaginary friend Adolf Hitler and it worked. Dude is magic.
