Rupert Buttermilk posted:Further to that with another example, I think there's no way Wright could get as many laughs from "saved by the buoyancy of citrus" that Hedberg got. Like, it's not an outright funny line by itself, but Mitch had this way of seemingly sounding stoned and dumb with his tone, and counterbalancing that with smarter language. No dumb stoner would say "buoyancy of citrus". Yeah definitely. They're both very "dry" and conceptually similar, but Wright is way more deadpan, to put it mildly.

Colbert's monologue felt even more edited than usual, I wonder if it's because Iran started blowing up stuff like a minute after the taping.

By the way, ten years ago we were entering the final week of Conan’s Tonight Show. I recently rewatched my own recordings and had wanted to figure out a way to stream those final three weeks of shows this month but, well, I never did So just remember them i guess and reflect quietly to yourself. Because NBC is faaaar too shite to ever ever put them online.

For just about everything. Some get a pass for being charmingly bad and over the top but there are loads that look pretty terrible, even for late in the day visual gags. The only other current show I can think of with low quality photoshops is Jim Jeffries' show but I haven't watched it in over a year so it might've gotten better.

Originally going to go ahead with shows but without audiences, three of the big four network late night shows will go on a hiatus through at least March 29th. NBC’s shows were planned to go on regularly-scheduled break the week of March 23, and Colbert was going to be dark after tonight’s taping through next week. But after taping an episode without an audience tonight, Fallon will enter hiatus starting tomorrow. https://twitter.com/fallontonight/status/1238276798405894145?s=21 Meyers canceled today’s taping, and will air a rerun tonight, but did record an A Closer Look segment for digital consumption: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SoZcjMWxm8 SNL is still tentatively scheduled to return March 28.

So that's what's going on with Colbert tonight?? He looks to be having some kind of awkward blast and or drunk. It's almost like none of his jokes are landing even though I'm laughing. It reminds me of when John Oliver hosted that one Daily Show when all the power in New York went out. Craig Ferguson would so be in his element hosting a show like this on the fly. It's weird not hearing even the camera guys cheer or anything like they would in Talk Soup or something.

Things seem funnier when other people are laughing. But also it seems like it was half rehearsal, half "we're actually gonna air this" and nobody was entirely sure.
