Baronjutter posted:Picard the character from TNG is great, but Patrick has never really liked him or really *got* trek in general. He's always made little comments about how lame and boring picard was and how the really talky episodes were boring. He wanted to blow stuff up and score hot young women in fast cars. As his fame increased he got the clout to demand more of that sort of thing, culminating with the horrible TNG movies. So basically, his bit in "Extras" wasn't too far off from real life, then. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fg_cwI1Xj4M

I'm still surprised there was no Uncut Gems HitB. Sandler movies are traditionally a cornerstone of RLM.

Origami Dali posted:I'm starting to get the feeling that for all of it's classic reputation as a show about morality and philosophical issues, optimistic idealism, space exploration, mystery, problem solving, thoughtful deliberation, collaboration, progress and so on, a lot of trek fans don't really give a poo poo about that stuff. reading comments, they seem to generally care more about the minutiae window dressing poo poo like what class of ship is being used and how it's designed, the details of starfleet/federation rankings, if it features their favorite race of aliens and what their particular abilities are, and the intricacies of esoteric trek lore. its like people talking about stats in their fantasy rpg or some poo poo, ie poo poo i don't give a drat about. That's dumb and the only appeal star trek had was the utopia world they inhabited to me. Other shows do shithole future much better

Decent video, though the dude seems to like STD, which seems like it's a pile of trash, still doesn't diminish what he's saying with the video. Also. Decontamination gel, seriously? And the characters have to rub each other down with it in the nude after away missions?

All this talk about Star Trek made me think about all the dumb as gently caress "future sports" that were on that show and in other science fiction and fantasy properties. You have games like Parisi Squares or Racketball which either kill you or look like a lamer version of Squash. Or you have poo poo like Quidditch in Harry Potter or Pyramid on Battlestar Galactica. Deep Space Nine was good because they made fun of the dumb future sports by making Sisko a baseball fanatic that makes everyone else look at him like he's a weirdo. But you're telling me that football/soccer, a sport that has lasted for centuries if not millennia, isn't popular in the Federation? At least Star Wars had the Wacky Races and Droid Rugby.

"Decontamination gel" is the funniest thing ever. It is so blatant, so obvious, so not-at-all-fooling-anyone. The absolute thinnest possible excuse for showing skin on your TV show.

I enjoyed man of steel and haven't seen anything else of his, the thread has some interesting content on his movies and how they are criticized. edit: Slider posted:you guys arent kidding, there is an actual 100+ page thread about zack snyder in CD wait until you hear about the 'blockbuster video' forum

I like Zack Snyder a lot because he clearly enjoys the hell out making the kind of films he makes. I do not like his movies much, but the man himself seems pretty enthusiastic.

He headbutted a human kid and snapped his neck, so I guess sports in the future are just plain more deadly than they are today.
