Jerry Cotton posted:Some sour gummies (and gummies in general) do contain salt(s) of citric acid (E331, E333, maybe Esomethingelse, too) for whatever purpose. Then again they also contain citric acid (E330). So it's not that dumb. Yes, because the post was obviously referring to chemical salts and not specifically NaCl.

No. 6 posted:Yes, because the post was obviously referring to chemical salts and not specifically NaCl. The OP said "a salt" which absolutely 100% means they didn't mean salt.

Improv itself is the problem, it has like a 15% success rate even at the top. People would appreciate SNL more if they rated it like a batting average. Phil Hartman was a career .400 hitter that's like improv hall of fame

The "problem" with SNL, and I just put that in quotes because I enjoy it most weeks, is that they have to create an hour of live TV in less than a week, and sometimes only within a day or two if they are reacting to something big that happens near the end of the week.

Most people on SNL come from improv backgrounds that then specialize in long form sketch. Groundlings, Second City, Improv Olympic, etc

Conan O'Brien's podcast Conan Needs A Friend is pretty funny. There's a story he told on the episode with Al Franken from when Conan was writing on SNL. They had a surprise visitor on a Tuesday night, George Harrison, you know, from The Beatles. I guess Tuesday night is where they do a lot of crunch time getting the show all written out and get their preliminary lineup of sketches. George Harrison had had dinner and drinks with Lorne Michaels, and wanders into the writer's room full of writers. He walks over to a piano, and begins playing and they're all enchanted listening to it. Having a moment, listening to George Harrison play the piano. Al Franken (then a producer) comes out of his office, slams the door as loud as possible and screams "QUIET!" and scares George Harrison away so the writers could get back to work. Conan says it's possibly the funniest thing he's ever seen in his life.

One way to improve SNL, get rid of the loving pointless musical acts. They'll never do it, since it's part of the shows history, but who's looking for some laffs, but they want it broken up with badly lipsynced music in a room with terrible acoustics.

Related: three years ago Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon did the best satire I've ever seen - a parody of the typical Rose Parade host banter. They hosted a seemingly earnest live stream on Amazon Prime under the names Cord Hosenbeck and Tish Cattigan. If you're white enough to have watched the Rose Parade before, it is hilarious. Even if you haven't, I hope this bit is funny for the thread: hundreds of miffed watchers who didn't get that it was satire leaving reviews:

They called him "the glue" for a reason. Improv actors end up defaulting to whatever schtick works. That's why most SNL actors become massive hams and do terrible voices/flailing, but then you'll see them in a movie or show they had time to prepare for and be like "wtf there's a comedian under there?"
