I'd been fascinated by the idea of this comic since I read about it in The Encyclopedia of Super Heroes as a kid (his inclusion, in hindsight, is unsurprising, since that book's author, Jeff Rovin, was the EIC of Atlas) and I finally got a chance to read it and yeah, it's even weirder than I expected. Tarantula (3) also ate people.

He's got the MNT part right but those do not look like teenagers.

Is that Elsie the Cow?

It's Cudley the Cowlick, the giant floating cow head that licks up the turtles and spits them out elsewhere in time and space.

Man I forgot how dumb and weird TMNT was, I just wanted to see them fight ninjas and eat pizza but it was always full of that bullshit instead

A couple years back I read all the Mirage, Image, Mirage reboot and IDW TMNT comics on a lark, but I couldn't bring myself to read the Archie stuff, because I remembered what it was like.

Those pages kind of have a alt-comix look to them. All they're missing is a couple of gross-out jokes about boners and piss.

As a kid I couldn’t figure out WHY. “Is he in shadows all the time because he’s so surly? Is he wearing a black suit? If it’s a black suit, why???” These are the things I’d wonder every time I was allowed a new comic. Anyway, I loved the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse storyline and my father actually got me every issue! Good comic.

Cudley is exactly the sort of dumb, insane, wonderful thing I love about comics.

I thought Don Simpson was better known than this, though I guess Megaton Man has fallen deep into obscurity.

I’d be fine if each of the turtles was based on a different turtle but that style does nothing for me. The IDW series is real good and it’s my “grab the year’s trades on the holiday sale and read over christmas” book of choice.

From what I’ve seen, the animation in motion is really excellent.

Fair point, in motion it looks charming as hell. I'm sure the internet hates it because April is black of course

My favorite detail in those designs is that Donatello actually just painted the eyebrows on his mask so he can emote better; Donnie's such a huge dork.

I've heard nothing but good things about the new cartoon, but I'll admit that at first glance it doesn't inspire huge amounts of confidence.

No matter your thoughts on the cartoon, it doesn't have the turtle-sub getting mated with by a sea monster, so it's not the worst.

Shadow of the Batgirl by Sarah Kuhn and Nicole Goux may not have an art style that's for everyone, but it does have a really cool library in it:

I don't think it's a good idea to put the children reading circle In such a central space where you'd hear that from the whole building.

The Toronto Comic Arts Festival has been held in that library many times so I'm guessing the artist saw it up close and personal.
