I've been playing some old ps1 games and i'm enjoying Future cop : L.A.P.D alot.
It's a mech game where you essentialy go into judge dredd style mega-city areas and mow down everyone, you get rockets and guns and can transform from mgs4 gecko* into a bladerunner car for flying on water or over mines.
There's a bit where you have to go into a mega prison and a ton of convicts run towards you and you immediately mow them down into confetti, brilliant.

*Mgs4 seriously 100% ripped this design off,no joke.

The Oncoming Storm
Fun fact: Future Cop was created from the bones of Future Strike, the planned next entry in the Strike series (Jungle, Urban, Nuclear, etc). At the end of Nuclear Strike you even get a brief tease of the mech that would turn into the Future Cop mech:

Looking at this thing, it's pretty obvious it was supposed to transform into a helicopter, so you can see where Future Cop's gameplay loop of mech -> hovercraft -> back to mech came from.

I personally loved the tower defense secondary game vs Sky Captain. There was even a mode that changed everything to bugs and flowers if you 100%ed the other levels with its own wacky victory movie:

I love that the disguise mechanic in Judgement very rarely requires you to wear a specific disguise. I think it's happened like twice over the last 20 hours. The rest of the time, I'm discretely snooping around criminal hideouts dressed as Dracula, because I'm the best drat detective in Tokyo.

The fact that I only played it when it came out is probably why I don't remember that being a thing but I could've swore you only got to wear a disguise for tailing missions and if the story required you to. I was pretty sure you couldn't wear them otherwise, outside of Premium Adventure.

You’re thinking of Sleeping Dogs. One of the outfits is the traffic cop uniform from the start of the DLC, and you can wear it through the game. That leads to a lot of “you better not be a cop!” Dialogue being said to someone who is in uniform.

It's probably my favorite of that genre because the strict gun laws in HK means you're not having boring shootouts all the time.

Yeah there are guns but they're rare and not nearly as fun as obliterating some fools knees and making his friends reel in terror.

Sleeping Dogs is a fuckin great game that really found the ideal balance for a GTA-style open world game. The brawling was awesome, the shooting worked well and the parkour and driving were fun too. Plus it had a solid story that didn’t try to own the player with lame gotchas like GTA5.

I wish they’d make a sequel, especially if it could lean even more into the environmental interactions. Smashing a dude into a fish tank so hard it breaks, then grabbing a fish and clobbering the next guy with it, is some fuckin peak Hong Kong action.

Guns in that game were great, because they were rare enough early on to make it a great indicator poo poo was about to Get Real. Then as things escalated to open warfare you upgraded to some serious firepower but the fights scaled really well to your increased ability to tear poo poo up.

There was a mediocre Minority Report game in the PS2 era that had you playing a dude who got pre-crimed despite being on the police force or whatever. One of the neat things was some fun environmental destruction elements that looked solid for the era, and they loved to show that off with window shattering. So you could dropkick dudes out skyscraper windows and then in the cutscene five minutes later yell that you aren't going to murder anyone

It makes the main character uncomfortable too and the other cops are uncomfortable because Wei is getting pretty comfortable with the whole triad thing. GTA 5 selling a gazillion copies and sleepy dogs not getting a sequel is a great injustice.

The only thing I’d recommend in that score then is basically doing as little of the optional content as possible and just going down the main quests. That’s usually what I do.

Stealing a gun from a cop and then taking it to a side mission that clearly didn’t expect you to have a gun is really fun. A mission that should have been a fistfight against 3 or 4 drunks who got rowdy at an underground casino ends in 3 seconds when I pull out my piece and start blasting

Oh yeah, or when you have the cop skill tree ability to pull a shotgun from the trunk of a cop car, which the side missions really don’t expect.

I sincerely love the lengths the Yakuza games go to ignore the gameplay elements in their cutscenes.

The side story in 0 where you get the kid his video game back from a thief ends with you confronting his dad, who unwittingly stole it from another thief who stole it from the thief who robbed the kid. It’s a good quest and each confrontation with Kiryu escalates; the dad pulls a loving gun on you and will straight shoot your rear end over it. Then when you beat him the kid comes up and sees his dad with the game and Kitty’s like yeah I found the game and gave it to your old man, everything is great! Casually ignoring that he just got perforated by the dude.
