https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgNlWypWmtw I forgot I saw this preview at the theatres. If nothing else, I really enjoyed the fake-out of some kind of cop-buddies movie into "surprise, they're doing Saw again." My buddy even nudged me and said "the new Saw movie" and he cracked me up until I realized he wasn't joking. Showing it to a coworker today, she pointed out it was produced by Chris Rock. Was he just a big fan of the original movies or did he just, like, happen to hear the gig was open and figures he could probably make a better one with the same premise? I'm inclined to believe he can. Always had weird feelings about the franchise, I really don't like torture-porn, but the basic idea of a serial-killer who fancies himself a second-chance opportunity giver is kind of neat -- even though in practice his logic and methods don't hold or make any sense in that light. Maybe it's the increasingly convoluted ways they retcon and re-retcon, and pre-retcon stuff each new addition that I truly enjoy.

I saw War Horse on theaters with a friend of mine (it was the only real option available when we made it to the theater) and we couldn't stop laughing the whole loving time. It was completely ridiculous and saccharine as hell. Felt kind of bad for ruining the nice families' movie-going experience, but it was impossible to treat it with the seriousness it thought it deserved. Pretty sure a grandma gave me the stink eye.

I remember my dad went to some big convention where some incentive for one of the sessions or lectures or whatever was that you got a free pass to see a specially organised fully produced section of the War Horse stage show. He enjoyed the puppetry, which was good, because he was one of like four people who went The performing arts must be so rewarding

Khanstant posted:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgNlWypWmtw He pitched them a story so it was very much a Chris Rock idea. Mind you it's not like Rock's movie work is particularly stellar, either as an actor or a filmmaker (Though I like him in NURSE BETTY) so I wouldn't get too excited by it. However, a guy like that straying into horror, particularly if he can bring his gift for social commentary from his standup to a franchise like that, could be really interesting.

Doctor Sleep was alright, felt like a b, b+ maybe. Kinda pedestrian, like if you asked 100 writers to come up with a sequel to the Shining, this is what 75% of them would’ve come up with.
