In your estimation, how many people buying masks from walmart have received proper training?

Medical personnel in my social circle tell me you're spouting half knowledge and passing it off as facts.

Particularly the one-use thing is wrong for N95 masks. But here, have a fight with the CDC over it.

https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/topics/hcwcontrols/recommendedguidanceextuse.html

Go on, tell the CDC reusing masks is useless. Have a ball.

That guidance is referring to masks that are deliberately designed to be reused (in that they are labeled "Extended Use" and "Limited Reuse"), not the disposable kind that most people are buying, idiot. And I sincerely doubt that your "medical friends" told you that wearing the masks over your noise and mouth will also protect your eyes

The point is that i was commenting on a condemnation of something spoken out of half knowledge without any qualifiers, and you, in defending it, had to pile on a ridiculous amount of qualifiers in order to not make it wrong. And as i said, i agree with you, with all your qualifiers you are correct. Just next time actually state them ahead of time.

"Well you should have specified that you weren't referring to masks that are already reusable when you said that you can't just reuse any old n95 mask" is maybe the most smugly pedantic poo poo I've read all week

You both have a point. Mithaldu is right; Jabor, unless you have medical training or some iron-clad source, then you talking like an authority on the subject could put people in danger.

Jabor, you have a point that unless people are trained properly and/or understand the risks, the masks won't help them.

Can you guys chill? I'm sure there's some folks reading this thread that are plenty concerned and there's nothing solved by fighting.

Incorrect. N95 masks are all assumed to be reusable, unless specifically marked single-use only or marked with a limited timeframe of use.
https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/npptl/topics/respirators/disp_part/respsource3respreuse.html

quote:

Unless the manufacturer identifies a specified duration of use, for example “single use only”, or the employer’s respirator program excludes reuse, for example when exposed to infectious agents capable of being transmitted by contact, users can wear an FFR until it is damaged, soiled, or causing noticeably increased breathing resistance.
And i never said that wearing the mask protects the eyes.

The point is that if you don't have access to eye protection you aren't 100% compromised and gain 0% from wearing a mask.

You're right, i'll try.

OK now I'm stocked up. Store looked fairly normal, but you could tell some people were going heavy on the canned items. I just got a whole bunch of dried bulk things. Now I can read these threads without wondering if I bought enough beans.

It’s funny people feel required to buy survivalist food. Like the power and water won’t go out, you can buy like, packaged or frozen food. Like rice and beans are good to eat, and maybe buy that if you cook with them anyway, but you can just buy normal regular food for an emergency. Buying blander or harsher food than you normally eat doesn’t make it more serious.

Its why I’m going to target tomorrow to grab a few more frozen pizzas and eggo waffles and toilet paper if they have any left.

Let me tell you, it feels pretty grand when you've been sitting on a 20lb bag of red beans, 15lb of rice, boxes of diapers and tp, lbs of butter and yeast and sugar, disinfectant wipes and gallons of hospital grade cides, and a box of respirators with p100 filter replacements for the last month. :smug:

I ended up having to go to Trader Joe's and it was the exact opposite. All the meat, produce, etc., shelves were 90% full; shelf-stable stuff was about 75% full (except chips were wiped out); and all the premade frozen dinners were completely gone.

I thought that was weird -- you're worried about a scenario where you're stuck in your small apartment for a month, bored to death, and you don't want to spend more than 3 minutes on cooking?

To be fair, I've never gone to TJ's to get staple items. A friend of mine was talking about how she saw a lot of people panic-buying at Whole Foods and I just lol'd.

Went grocery shopping yesterday here in Seattle at a normal store and the only thing they were out of was bulk white rice and bags of flour for bread machines. Lots of other kinds of both.
